Biomedical Scientist in Leicester

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is seeking a Biomedical Scientist in Cellular Pathology.

Area of Work: Cellular Pathology (Histopathology)

Pay Band: 5

Working patterns: Full time 7.5 hours/day within the period 08.00 to 18.00. Current working days are Monday to Friday. There will be a requirement to work on any of Leicester's 3 hospital sites.

Responsibilities:

• Our laboratory handles approximately 65,000 surgical cases a year.
• We are UKAS accredited and registered with the IBMS as a pre and post registration training laboratory.
• CPD is actively encouraged.
• The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of working in all primary diagnostic sections of the laboratory (specimen reception, dissection, and section production – embedding, microtomy, and quality control).
• Experience in the specialist histological techniques offered in the department, including immunohistochemistry (automated), electron microscopy, and enzyme histochemistry, is desirable but not essential.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work accurately and efficiently in a busy laboratory environment, and a flexible approach to work in line with the Trust’s agenda for service reconfiguration and improved patient care are required.

• State Registered with HCPC
• Demonstrates a commitment to continuing education and training
• Membership of IBMS
• Demonstrates knowledge and awareness of instrumentation, method development and new technologies

Experience:

• Departmental specific laboratory / advanced techniques
