The post of Trust Specialty Registrar has been developed to support the delivery of high‑quality paediatric care across University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The role contributes to meeting the Trust's ambitions around junior doctor workforce capacity and improving work‑life balance for doctors in training. The post holder will join a team of Specialist Paediatric Registrars and provide a wide range of general paediatric clinical services, working alongside paediatricians from multiple specialties. The role involves hands‑on clinical care at registrar level, participation in ward management, and supervised outpatient work. Flexibility is required to work across the Trust's three main hospital sites.

Main duties of the job:

  • Providing clinical care to paediatric patients at registrar level across general paediatrics
  • Undertaking clinical and non‑invasive assessment of children within an acute paediatric environment
  • Participating in the day‑to‑day running of paediatric base wards
  • Planning and implementing patient management under the supervision of consultant staff
  • Presenting cases at departmental multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
  • Working in paediatric outpatient clinics under consultant supervision
  • Working collaboratively with paediatricians from acute paediatrics, general paediatrics, paediatric intensive care, and other paediatric specialties
  • Maintaining compliance with statutory and mandatory training requirements
  • Undertaking additional duties as reasonably required by the Trust

Person Specification:

Training and Qualifications:

  • Full GMC Registration
  • MBBS or Equivalent
  • MRCPCH or Equivalent
  • Current APLS/NLS certification
  • Level 3 Child Protection Training
  • Higher degree (MSc, MD or equivalent)

Experience:

  • Completed level 1 training (or equivalent) in Paediatrics
  • Experience in Paediatrics at Registrar level
  • Ability to cannulate, bleed and undertake lumbar punctures on children of all ages

Motivation:

  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • Ability to motivate and develop both medical and non‑medical staff
  • Commitment to further develop the post and the service provided

Management:

  • Able to work in multidisciplinary teams and supervise juniors
  • Understanding of wider health agenda and modern NHS
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues
  • Capacity to manage/prioritise time and information effectively
