At Leicester Tigers, we are excited to announce that an opportunity has opened up to work within our Academy, as an Academy Coach. The Academy Coach will play a key role in shaping the Leicester Tigers Academy curriculum across the Foundation Phase (U15–U16) and Development Phase (U17–U18). Working closely with players, coaches and wider staff, the post holder will contribute to a coherent development pathway that builds strong foundations, provides targeted and individualised support, and prepares players towards senior professional rugby. The role will involve highly effective coaching, player identification, development planning and review, while helping to ensure that players experience a joined-up programme across club, school/college and the wider environment. In doing so, the Academy Coach will support Leicester Tigers’ aim of developing future senior players within a purposeful, demanding and caring culture.

This post is eligible for a DBS check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is defined as regulated activity under Part 1 of the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006. This post is designated as a regulated activity and requires enhanced criminal records check for a regulated activity (including a barred list check).

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Design, deliver and evaluate high-quality coaching and player-development processes across training, competition and wider support activity, ensuring that coaching practice is aligned to the aims of the Leicester Tigers Academy curriculum across the Foundation and Development Phases.
  • Support the development of players across technical, tactical, psychological and physical areas in line with the Leicester Tigers Academy curriculum and individual development plans.
  • Lead coaching and mentoring of coaches at nominated Foundation Phase sites, supporting player engagement, progression and talent identification.
  • Deliver targeted coaching support to Development Phase players, including players based in partner schools and colleges.
  • Observe and assess current and prospective Academy players in school, college and club fixtures as part of the Academy’s player identification and review processes.
  • Implement and maintain individual development plans for an allocated group of players, supporting their progression through the Academy pathway.
  • Contribute to player profiling, case review and wider development discussions to help ensure that player support is coordinated and effective.
  • Monitor and review player progress on a regular basis, adapting support where required.
  • Liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including academy staff, schools, colleges and parents, to support a joined-up player experience.
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism, safeguarding and conduct in keeping with Leicester Tigers values and expectations.
