About The Role & Who We’re Scouting

We’re on the lookout for a passionate Apprentice to join our squad at Leicester City Football Club, within the Club's Sports Turf Academy & Grounds team. In this apprenticeship role you will work towards competency of the following duties, this includes working towards and timely completion of the main Sport Turf Operative Apprenticeship qualification.

Main duties:

  • To assist in the general maintenance and renovation tasks of all sports turf surfaces (e.g. natural turf, artificial turf and hybrid turf surfaces).
  • To assist in preparing sports turf surfaces for play in line with governing body of sport (e.g. mark out and install equipment on sports surfaces for play).
  • Use machinery, equipment and vehicles in accordance with LCFC and manufacturer’s instructions (e.g. following LCFC guidance, health and safety legislation, regulations and codes of practice).
  • Identify and communicate issues with equipment, machinery, and sports turf surfaces.
  • Maintain cleanliness of machinery, equipment, sports grounds, and general associated work areas.
  • Ensure a safe working environment and always work safely.
  • Assist with the effectiveness of sports turf irrigation and drainage.
  • Develop identification knowledge of common turf weeds, pests, diseases and disorders and know how to use integrated pest management practices.
  • Develop a knowledge of turfgrasses, soils, sports turf construction, drainage, irrigation, calibration of equipment, fertilisers, and sports turf performance testing at the required level 2 standard.
