Part Time 29.15 hours per week, 4.5 days a week, term time, fixed‑term 1 year starting autumn term 20.08.26. The Early Years Support Team (EYST) supports and promotes the education of young children with complex SEND in homes, Leicester City settings and schools. The team includes specialist teachers and teaching assistants.

We are looking for an experienced Early Years Support Teacher at Leicester City Council. As the designated EYST link teacher for several city settings and schools you will also work in homes alongside a specialist teaching assistant supporting individual children with SEND and their families. You will manage your caseload and support parents, setting and school staff, providing guidance including assessing, advising, monitoring, evaluating and supporting with some direct teaching. You will be co‑located at New Parks House and one of the child centres in the city, facilitating the sharing of good practice and networking across Leicester city schools and settings. Spending most of the time in homes, settings and schools supporting staff and pupils you will travel to various sites and provide training where needed.

Your Role

Following the SEND Code of Practice, you will work with school and setting support teams to advise on the preparation and implementation of individual programmes and reviews of pupils’ progress; you will also support parents/carers to develop their understanding of their child’s needs and work in partnership with them in monitoring their child’s progress. You will directly work with children to understand their learning and special needs. You will make recommendations to practitioners and parents/carers to support the needs of the children and model how to implement your advice to ensure children on your caseload make progress in their areas of need. You will support the school/setting SENCo around SEND processes and work collaboratively with a range of professionals, schools and families. Using your experience and knowledge of SEND, and your proficient written and oral communication skills you will attend meetings, write reports and provide recommendations for EHCP educational assessments as well as statutory reviews.

What You’ll Need

  • Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Significant experience in Special Educational Needs, including working with children in the early years.
  • Successful teaching experience in mainstream or SEN schools with ability to work across the foundation stage and variety of settings.
  • Informed understanding of key issues for SEND including complex learning difficulties, language and communication difficulties and autism, local and national legislation and good practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to relate positively to young children, parents, setting and school staff teams and other professionals.
  • Subject to an enhanced Children’s DBS Check.
