Full time / 37 hours per week / permanent. A Team Leader is needed to join our Special Education Service to manage the day‑to‑day arrangements for statutory assessment of children and young people with SEND, ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and delivering high quality plans within statutory timeframes.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a confident and supportive manager to lead the team in providing day‑to‑day management of statutory assessments, ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Establish a strong performance/quality assurance culture, implement effective qualitative measures, evaluate service quality, and improve service delivery.
  • Identify improvements to management within your areas of responsibility, liaise closely with colleagues across Specialist Teaching Service, Education Psychology Service, Schools and Colleges, Admissions, Social Care, Health, and IT to address issues efficiently.
  • Contribute to the development of new processes, policies, and reporting systems within the SES Service, adhering to the legal framework.
  • Provide management information to senior staff to improve delivery and performance.
  • Chair decision‑making meetings, supervise staff (currently 8/9 team members), offer daily support, manage and monitor KPI targets for both individuals and the team.
  • Produce a range of management information and work to improve current practice and procedures; collaborate with regional colleagues, schools, colleges, and parents/carers of young people.

Qualifications

  • Recent and relevant experience in a specialist area involving multi‑professional assessment, SEN within a local authority context, and knowledge of SEND legislation, guidance and policy.
  • Excellent communication skills with experience of relaying verbal and written information to a wide variety of audiences; confident in managing conflict resolution and sensitive issues to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret audits, outcome and impact measures, complaints and statutory compliance reporting for varied audiences, tailoring reports to their needs.
  • Confident negotiation skills, working closely with schools, colleges and other education providers to ensure children with an EHC plan receive inclusive education, remove barriers and support placements.
  • Driving licence preferable but not required if able to travel to schools, LCC sites and other venues as needed.
  • No specific qualifications required; a degree in a relevant area desirable, with good educational level and willingness to learn.
  • Enhanced DBS check.
