This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Painter and Decorator to join our Housing Team. Leicester City Council have around 20,000 properties across the city and we want our residents to feel at home in them. If you have a passion for excellent painting and decorating, we would love for you to join our team and help us provide a great customer service that our residents deserve.

This is a full time, permanent position working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday. You will be based at St Marks Depot; however, you will only visit the office to attend meetings and will be required to travel across the city to undertake the majority of your work.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will visit council properties, buildings and communal areas to undertake a range of tasks which relate to painting and decorating. This will involve carrying out assessments of the tasks to take appropriate action to rectify these and liaising with customers before, during and after refurbishment work, to ensure the least possible inconvenience, including agreeing suitable appointments. You will be responsible for mixing paints, matching colours, preparing surfaces, and applying paint to these surfaces. You will prepare the surrounding areas by covering with cloths or plastic to prevent any messes, ensuring that the work is carried out in an efficient and acceptable manner. You will be required to clean up supplies and replace any fixtures when the project is complete. In order to enable you to work as efficiently as possible, all work assignments and pre-arranged property visits will be sent to you via a handheld smart phone which we will provide. Working as part of a small, but dedicated team, you will have access to a team council vehicle. In addition, you will be given the opportunity to oversee apprentices and trainees.

What You’ll Need

You will have an exceptional sense of creativity with good attention to detail. You will be organised and able to work under pressure by prioritising tasks to meet agreed timescales and targets. You will have the ability to carry heavy equipment including painting tools and heavy buckets of paint. You will be knowledgeable in the use of painting and decorating and how these skills and tools are applied in a safe way. Due to the nature of the role, you will be subject to a Driving License check (this must be a manual driving license).

What We Can Offer You

As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance. You will enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working. We will also give you the chance to develop your skills and expertise with a variety of training and development opportunities. In addition, you can choose from a number of flexible benefits, including discounts on city buses and trains.
