We are currently looking for an experienced and passionate Learning, Communication, and Interaction teacher, with a specialism in either autism, cognition and learning differences or speech language and communication differences to join our team at Leicester City Council. As part of the SEND Support Service, the LCI Team is peripatetic, supporting and promoting the education of pupils with learning, language and communication difficulties and autism, in Leicester city schools and colleges.
As the designated LCI team link teacher for several Leicester city schools, day to day you will manage your caseload to work with school staff and pupils to provide guidance and advice to support pupils. This will include assessing, advising, monitoring, evaluating, and supporting with some direct teaching. It will also include delivering training on special needs. Part of the role will involve supporting schools in meeting the needs of pupils who are waiting for special school placement within Leicester City.
Based at New Parks House with opportunity for hybrid working, you will join a team of knowledgeable and supportive LCI specialist teachers and teaching assistants. While working on your own caseload you will facilitate the sharing of good practice and networking across Leicester city schools. Spending most of the time in schools supporting staff and pupils you will travel to various sites and provide training where needed.
This post is temporary fixed term for a year initially with the possibility of becoming permanent and ideally would be full time, but part time would be considered for the right candidate.
What you’ll be doingFollowing the SEND code of practice, you will work with school support teams to advise on the preparation and implementation of individual programmes and reviews of pupils’ progress. You will directly work with pupils with autism to understand their learning strengths and differences and provide the support and advice to ensure that the school supports their needs. You will make recommendations to the school and model how to implement your advice to ensure children on your caseload make progress in their areas of need. You will support the school SENCo, and other staff around SEND processes and work collaboratively with a range of professionals, schools and families. You will use your experience and knowledge of SEND to attend meetings, write reports and provide recommendations for EHCP educational assessments as well as statutory reviews.
What you’ll needAs a qualified teacher you will hold QTS status, ideally with further qualifications in SEND. These could include speech and language, autism or NASENCo. You will also have significant experience in SEND education, including extensive experience with pupils with communication and interaction needs. As a successful teacher in mainstream and/or SEND schools you will have the ability to work across multiple phases and in a variety of types of schools. For this role we are looking for experience and understanding of a range of educational settings and age ranges; experience in secondary education would be particularly welcome. Along with this you will also have an informed understanding of the key issues for SEND and LCI on a local and national level as well as knowledge of legislation and good practice.
