Opportunity to become an independent member of Leicester City Council's Governance & Audit Committee.

Leicester City Council is looking for up to two committed individuals to join our Governance & Audit Committee as an independent member for a three-year period. The Governance and Audit Committee is a key component of the Council's corporate governance framework. The Committee reports to the full Council and its purpose is to provide those charged with governance independent assurance of the adequacy of the risk management framework, the internal control environment and the integrity of the financial reporting and governance processes. The Committee also approves the annual statutory statement of accounts and associated documents on behalf of full Council. It plays a key role in overseeing internal and external audit, whilst maintaining constructive relationships.

The independent members will work alongside the eight elected councillors on the Governance and Audit Committee. They will contribute to the work of the Committee by bringing specialist knowledge and skills to the process and providing an element of external challenge and support. You will be objective and politically independent with an ability to analyse information and ask questions. As a co-opted member of the committee, you will not be able to vote on decisions.

Meetings are generally held at 5.30pm on a Monday or Wednesday but there may be a requirement to attend meetings at other times during the day and in the evening and be available for telephone or email consultation. Locations of the meetings will normally be at City Hall, Leicester.

The appointment will be for a fixed term of 3 years. The role is a volunteer role, but all reasonable travel/subsistence costs will be payable. The new independent member will receive an induction and other appropriate training.
