Main duties of the job:
Infectious diseases can have a devastating impact on our care home population. You will play an instrumental role in responding to outbreaks in our care homes, working with the home, adult social care and the UKHSA to reduce the impact of the outbreak and reduce onward transmission as much as possible. You will provide ongoing support to care home staff throughout the outbreak providing support and guidance and ensuring all IPC measures are followed. The senior CIPC specialist is developing a range of projects of special interest and you will be expected to be involved and support these projects as part of your IPC work.

- Assurance & Audit: Work as part of the CIPC team to ensure that commissioners and providers of health and social care in Leicester City have the appropriate infection, prevention and control systems and processes in place which meet required national standards and enable them to provide good quality, clean, safe care.
- Implement a system of IPC quality assurance in conjunction with social care quality assurance team.
- Audit the effectiveness of implementation of policies, guidelines, and quality assurance frameworks in care settings.
- Contribute to audits of care service provider performance against local and national benchmarks.
- Provide reports as required to the local Health Protection and Health & Wellbeing Boards on issues relating to Infection Prevention Control (IPC) procedures.
- Identify areas of concern and non-adherence for follow up action and support.
- Maintain an evidence base for CIPC interventions and disseminate information to the Divisions of Public Health and Social Care and other relevant stakeholders.
- Support Root Cause Analysis and Post Infection Reviews following single high-risk incidences and serious outbreak situations.
- 40% Care Setting Leadership, Surveillance, Advice & Outbreak Management: Build strong relationships with managers in care settings. Build internal CIPC capacity within care providers. Work collaboratively with Public Health and Social Care colleagues to support care providers in developing and sustaining IPC processes.
- 35% Other duties: Undertake other miscellaneous activities associated with the role.
Person Specification:
Qualifications Experience:
- Experience in infection prevention and control.
- Experience of working with a variety of care providers including residential, nursing, day care, domiciliary and respite care providers, lunch clubs, mental health hostels, contact centres and residential care for children and young people.
- Experience of delivering training sessions and presentations on IPC topics to the public and colleagues at a variety of professional levels and from various backgrounds.
- Experience of IPC audit tools and report writing.
- Experience of working in a partnership which has resulted in a service improvement.
- Successfully managing change and developing and implementing innovative solutions with demonstrable results.
