About the Role
Playing a vital role in improving the lives of young people in Leicester. Join our ever improving and expanding service, ensuring children are at the heart of our work. We are committed to working in partnership with children, families, and young adults to achieve the best outcomes.
Based at one of our 7 children’s homes or one of our newly opening homes across the Leicester City suburbs, you’ll provide care, guidance and support to children and young people, some of whom have challenging behaviours (including physical and verbal aggression), disabilities, and/or complex health care needs.
Shifts will be from 9.30pm to 8am, including weekends and bank holidays. Night/weekend work is paid at plain time plus a premium of 33.3 percent. Waking night staff must remain awake on duty. You’ll work from the location necessary for the shift, using your own transport.
What you’ll be doing
You will be working as part of a residential team of 20 to 30 people providing around-the-clock care.
You’ll provide consistent care when working with children and young people, handling tasks such as personal care, housekeeping (cleaning surfaces, washing dishes, vacuuming, emptying waste bins, basic sewing repairs), and managing bedding and laundry.
You’ll report incidents and accidents involving children, conduct risk assessments of the building, and report building security breaches.
You’ll maintain accurate records relating to children and the team, keeping them up to date and securely filed.
What you’ll need
Ability to build appropriate and trusting relationships with children and young people, strengthening their self‑esteem and confidence.
Experience working with people, especially those with challenging behaviour, approached in a diplomatic and sensitive manner.
Previous experience in a caring role, knowledge of moving and handling, and physical fitness to assist with lifting and personal care when required.
Good level of communication skills; ability to give and receive verbal handovers, write notes and reports, and observe children and young people.
Organised and able to manage your own workload with minimal direction.
