Play a key role in developing and delivering safe and sustainable transport in Leicester. Our core transport objectives are to provide a transport system that facilitates a safer and healthier way of life and encourage more people to walk, cycle and use public transport. Working within the Transport Strategy Group, you’ll be involved in a wide range of transportation activities including projects to improve and promote safe travel on our streets.
In particular, you will be working within the Active Travel Neighbourhoods Team, to work alongside other Transport Development Officers to contact schools to promote and book in Bikeability Training as well as co-ordinating the rota of Bikeability Instructors.
You’ll work from City Hall and various school locations with the flexibility to work from home. However, you’ll be required to work outside of general working hours and travel within and outside of Leicester as necessary.
What you’ll be doing:
- Liaising with schools on the delivery of the Bikeability programme, you’ll co-ordinate the work for the team including managing the logistics of moving Instructors, bicycles and equipment between schools and upkeeping a shared diary of appointments.
- You’ll undertake monitoring and reporting on outcomes, producing risk assessments and developing procedures to help maintain quality delivery.
- Support other community and business led projects such as the Led Walk Programme, Clean Air Day and Business Travel Road shows, you’ll foster good relationships with schools and attend project and public meetings.
- You’ll manage small scale infrastructure schemes as required.
What you’ll need:
- With experience of managing projects and programmes, ideally, you’ll have experience of working with primary and secondary schools, undertaking risk assessments and using maps and plans.
- You’ll have strong communication and interpersonal skills, to be able to engage successfully with schools and groups, when effectively explaining policies and procedures.
- You’ll be able to work with minimum supervision and as part of a team.
- With a can-do attitude, a problem solver and ability to work calmly under pressure, you’ll be able to implement creative solutions.
