What you’ll be doing:
- Work with households that are homeless and residing in temporary accommodation, maximising income for the authority by creating and terminating rent accounts, collecting ineligible rent, and monitoring Housing Benefit claims.
- Manage temporary accommodation rent accounts from initial set‑up through closure, ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
- Collect accommodation charges, recover arrears, and work with residents to agree sustainable repayment arrangements.
- Monitor Housing Benefit and Universal Credit claims and support residents in resolving any issues that may impact their payments.
- Carry out affordability assessments and provide income maximisation advice to help maintain tenancies.
- Conduct home visits and discuss rent accounts with households, offer tailored support, and take appropriate action when repayment agreements are not adhered to.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure residents receive holistic support, maintaining accurate records for reporting on income collection and overall performance.
What you’ll need:
- Experience working within housing, homelessness, income management, welfare benefits or a similar customer‑focused environment.
- Good understanding of Housing Benefit, Universal Credit and/or rent account management, strong communication, negotiation and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage a varied caseload within a busy service, using own initiative while remaining organised and resilient under pressure.
- Compassionate and enthusiastic, passionate about supporting homeless people and vulnerable households, committed to delivering a high‑quality, customer‑focused service.
- Potential to coordinate or manage a team will also be valued.
- Experience working with vulnerable people, especially supporting individuals within temporary accommodation to sustain tenancies, would be highly beneficial.
