This role leads a team of dedicated and highly qualified Engineers and Project Managers to deliver the department's transport capital programme. This is a full-time, permanent position working 37 hours per week from Monday to Friday. Based at City Hall, with some flexibility to work from home at times. However, you’ll work across the city to visit projects on site, attend project meetings, all of which will be a combination of face to face and online.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Managing a team of highly skilled professionals, you’ll lead on the delivery of a programme of works including procurement exercises and stakeholder engagement to promote and deliver projects.
  • You’ll provide technical guidance to colleagues, manage budgets, and chair meetings with internal and external teams.
  • You’ll present to politicians and senior management, as well as liaise with consultants, contractors, and members of the public.
  • Working closely with your team, service managers, and the programme manager, you’ll ensure programmes are delivered successfully within set timescales and to budget.

What you’ll need:

  • With strong leadership skills, you’ll have substantial experience of managing and guiding transport professionals in a busy transport or highway work environment.
  • A proven track record of delivering large, complex transport infrastructure projects in urban or rural areas.
  • You must have extensive experience of transport engineering to manage a team of engineers and project managers.
  • You’ll have experience of partnership working especially with a wide range of people including senior management.
  • Using a high level of verbal and written communication skills, you’ll be able to present complex information clearly and concisely to stakeholders and command the confidence of others.
  • Self-motivated, with a flexible approach and commitment to successfully delivering projects, you’ll create a professional and positive working environment.
