We are seeking an experienced and motivated person to join us in supporting children and young people to grow in confidence, skills and independence as they prepare for adulthood. This is an opportunity to make a lasting difference at a crucial stage in their lives, helping them develop the skills they need to navigate the world with greater freedom.

As part of this, we are establishing a new service focused on delivering travel training for children, young people, and adult learners with SEND. We are looking for someone who can help bring this vision to life, shaping the service from the ground up and ensuring it meets the needs of those it supports. Building on our proven ‘train the trainer’ model and developing it to extend to a one-to-one offer. This role is a chance to help empower something meaningful that will have a direct and lasting impact on people’s lives.

The team you support will play a key role in developing practical skills, confidence, and resilience. These are abilities that extend far beyond travel, helping individuals participate more fully in education, employment, and community life. You will have the opportunity to think creatively and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to develop and support delivery of the approach, supported by a strong and committed wider team.

We are particularly interested in hearing from people who are experienced with, and passionate about, enabling individuals with SEND to reach their full potential. If you are someone who understands the importance of diverse communities and wants to help ensure that individuals, employers, and local services all benefit from Leicester being as accessible as possible for everyone, this role could be a great fit for you.

In this position, you will support and help deliver the assessment processes, working closely with council colleagues to ensure service meets local needs. You will work with three Independent Travel Trainers who will deliver training in schools, community settings and remotely. Key parts of your role will be helping to facilitate training and ensuring that the benefit of service is clearly captured.

Demand for SEND services, children's and adult social care is increasing nationally, while budgets remain under significant pressure. In this context, supporting individuals to become more independent is not only the right thing to do, but also essential for the sustainability of services. This role is the solid foundation of that effort, helping to reduce long-term need while improving outcomes for young people and adult learners.

The role offers a balance of training support and data development work. You will spend time working with independent travel trainers and the team that undertake eligibility assessments as the service develops, while also staying connected to the communities, schools, and colleges you support. Working arrangements are flexible, with a mix of remote working, office-based activity, and time spent out in the community to ensure the best possible outcomes.

For an informal discussion or more information, please contact Maria Coulson at Maria.Coulson@Leicester.gov.uk or on 0116 454 2230.

Interviews / Assessments will take place on week commencing 20th of July.
