We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Project Manager to join our Finance Projects Team within Corporate Finance. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a range of business, operational and systems change initiatives that support the delivery of key Council priorities. Working within a small but high-performing team, you’ll play a central role in delivering transformation projects, finance systems improvements and service redesign activity across Leicester City Council.

As Project Manager, you’ll provide operational leadership within the Finance Projects Team, managing project staff and resources whilst overseeing the successful delivery of complex projects and workstreams. You’ll work with stakeholders across the Council to identify opportunities for improvement, develop business cases and options appraisals, and ensure projects deliver measurable benefits and outcomes.

This is a hybrid role with the opportunity to combine working from home with regular office attendance at City Hall. We offer flexible working arrangements and support a healthy work-life balance.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead and deliver a varied portfolio of projects spanning finance systems, business change and operational transformation.
  • Manage project staff, external suppliers and delivery partners, ensuring projects are delivered to agreed time, cost and quality expectations.
  • Develop project schedules, governance arrangements and reporting mechanisms, whilst actively managing risks, issues and dependencies throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Gather requirements, facilitate workshops, develop options appraisals and business cases, and support services through change.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the organisation, presenting progress updates, recommendations and project information to boards, steering groups and senior management.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of project management practices within the Finance Projects Team, helping to strengthen delivery capability across Corporate Finance.

This is a rewarding role for someone who enjoys combining people leadership, project delivery and organisational improvement.

What you’ll need:

  • Strong project management experience.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven experience of successfully managing and delivering complex projects.
  • Experience of leading, developing and motivating staff.
  • Experience of delivering business change, systems implementation or transformation initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results under pressure.
  • Experience of developing business cases, options appraisals and project plans.
  • A project management qualification (such as PRINCE2, Agile or equivalent) and/or significant relevant practical experience.
  • Strong ICT skills, including Microsoft Office and collaboration tools.
  • Experience of working with finance systems, ERP solutions or within a local government environment would be advantageous.
