We have an exciting opportunity in Hywel Dda University Health Board in the county of Pembrokeshire for a Rotational Specialist Physiotherapist. There is the option for a static position with our Community team should that be preferred - please contact for more information.

Whilst the rotation is always under review, the current rotation is:

  • Medical/Respiratory
  • Orthopaedics
  • Stroke ward
  • Community settings, including rehabilitation ward
  • Intermediate Care Team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, positive and motivated individual that has the skills and ability to motivate and engage with their patients and can work independently. They will lead and adapt to innovation and service developments. They will support supervision and training and have the ability to work flexibly and collaboratively in a team. Experience of NHS working is desirable.

The University Health Board proactively supports training and development both as part of internal and external CPD.

Main duties of the job:

We are looking for an individual with great interpersonal skills to network with acute and community colleagues to co-ordinate a responsive, seamless service across pathways and sectors. The successful post holder will have organisational ability and a commitment to service development. They will develop the evidence base for evaluation through audit, clinical effectiveness and research activity. As appropriate, there will be an expectation to deputise for senior management.

As a versatile postgraduate, they will need to have a strong clinical grounding in older people rehabilitation, expertise in falls and frailty syndrome, neurological conditions, cardio-respiratory conditions and MSK problems. They will have a good understanding of current issues affecting community services. The post holder will work autonomously as a highly skilled practitioner managing a clinical caseload of patients with diverse and complex health and social care needs. They will work alongside members of the MDT in a managerial and clinical role. They will provide clinical leadership, specialist expertise and supervision to junior physiotherapists, physiotherapy support workers, students and generic rehabilitation assistants. There will be a strong educational element to the role as a clinical expert.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 11,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales.

The post holder will be required to participate in the provision of a flexible 7-day service and participation on the respiratory on-call rota with adequate training as required. This will be on a rota basis. The ability to travel is required and although based in Pembrokeshire, there may be times where it will be necessary to travel.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply. We actively promote post-graduate study with shared funding opportunities. Person Specification:

Essential qualifications & knowledge include professional registration as recognised by HCPC, CPD evidence, IT skills, and postgraduate evidence of specialist education. Desirable qualifications include post-graduate qualification up to post grad diploma level in relevant specialty, Clinical Education Training Course, and membership of C.S.P.

Essential experience includes post-graduate experience in relevant clinical specialty, completion of junior competency framework, practical experience to a level that would enable participation on the respiratory on call rota, therapeutic handling and risk assessments, managing a diverse caseload using a clinical reasoning process, inter-professional and team working, and evidence of supporting service compliance with clinical governance requirements. Desirable experience includes evidence of student supervision, negotiation of MDT working practices, and experience of service development.

Other essential requirements include evidence of teaching/In Service Training, a flexible approach to meet the needs of the service, and preparedness to participate in on call and extended service. The ability to travel between sites and in the community in a timely manner is also required.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
