Specialist Bereavement Counselling Co‑ordinator
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate counsellor to lead the delivery of a responsive and person‑centred bereavement service within the Hywel Dda University Health Board area, covering hospital and community settings across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and bordering counties.
Responsibilities
- Provide high‑quality pre‑ and post‑bereavement counselling to individuals and families, following evidence‑based practice and NHS policies.
- Support both adults and children in hospital and community settings, ensuring safe, individualised, and effective care.
- Coordinate the day‑to‑day running of the bereavement support service, including supervision, development and support of counsellors, students and volunteers.
- Contribute to service planning and development and maintain high standards of practice and clinical governance.
- Manage an independent caseload using recognised assessment tools and clinical judgement, delivering holistic, personalised therapeutic care.
- Recognise, report and respond to unsafe practices, promoting high standards of care.
- Provide clear, accurate information to clients throughout the pre‑ and post‑bereavement process in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
- Work flexibly across the community and at Ty Cymorth, Glangwili General Hospital and Ty Bryngwyn, Prince Philip Hospital.
Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant Supervision Qualification and BACP Accreditation (or equivalent).
- Band 6 level experience in a bereavement or counselling setting; applicants without the essential criteria may be considered under the All Wales Annex 21 rules and supported to achieve the qualifications within a three‑year development plan.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and possess excellent communication skills.
- Experience in multidisciplinary team leadership and clinical governance is desirable.
Language
Welsh language skills are desirable and will be supported through learning options. English speakers are also welcome to apply.
Other Information
Interviews will be held on 31.01.2026. The post is a contract position with a development pathway to Band 6.
