Introduction

This is a fixed term/secondment until 21/06/2026. If you are a Hywel Dda University Health Board employee and are applying for this post as a secondment, agreement for the secondment is needed from your current manager prior to application. This is an exciting opportunity to join the General Surgical Team at Glangwili General Hospital. Applications are invited from efficient and suitably qualified individuals, for the post of a full‑time Clinical Secretary within the General Surgical Team, based at Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen on a fixed term basis.

Working Hours

Working 37.5 hours per week, the successful candidate will be required to support the delivery of a comprehensive and quality secretarial service to the Consultants and their teams and support the Medical Secretaries.

Responsibilities

You will undertake a wide‑range of duties including receipt and distribution of mail, audio transcription, and the typing of highly sensitive letters and reports. You will maintain confidentiality at all times, operate the Health Board\’s patient database system, and demonstrate excellent organisational skills with flexibility and adaptability. You must work on your own initiative, use tact and diplomacy where appropriate and possess excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

Experience of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and E‑Mail, coupled with proven secretarial skills (including audio typing skills) and previous experience of medical terminology is essential. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
