At a Glance Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Transformation Intern to join the Operations Excellence and Modernization Team within our Data Center Power & Control Division in Reading, UK. This role will work closely with senior leadership to help shape and drive the global manufacturing transformation strategy. Key focus areas will include digital transformation on the shop floor and the development of a robust manufacturing ecosystem involving suppliers, research institutions, and strategic partners. The internship will be hybrid, with approximately 20% travel, and may include project management responsibilities to advance key initiatives.
What Will You Do?
- Analyze performance data from global sites (Singapore, Canonsburg, Juarez, Reading) to shape the operations modernization strategy.
- Conduct a full lifecycle analysis of packaging materials and methods currently used at Starline, identifying opportunities for reduction, elimination, reuse, or consolidation.
- Benchmark internal initiatives and industry best practices to develop a sustainable packaging roadmap with a focus on reducing single-use plastics.
- Collaborate with logistics and quality teams to assess existing traceability systems across multiple manufacturing sites.
- Evaluate and recommend digital tools and technologies that can be integrated into manufacturing operations to enhance traceability and ensure product quality.
- Support the design and planning of lighthouse projects focused on packaging and traceability improvements, scheduled for implementation in late 2025 and 2026.
- Present findings and actionable recommendations to senior stakeholders, contributing directly to the company’s sustainability and quality enhancement goals.
- Partner with the executive team to build the global manufacturing and transformation roadmap.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Industrial, Manufacturing, Operations, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Currently enrolled in an MBA program (expected graduation in 2026 or 2027) or a recent MBA graduate.
- Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in project execution-orientated manufacturing engineering capacity.
- Preferred Skills: Experience in corporate strategy, supply chain development, or industrial operations is highly desirable. Prior exposure to manufacturing or industrial environments is a strong asset. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Independent judgment and initiative are essential to plan, prioritize, and execute a diverse workload. Excellent analytical capabilities, including the ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and recommend proactive corrective actions. Demonstrated ability to apply logical and structured thinking to both strategic and operational challenges. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey ideas and collaborate across all levels of the organization. Must be a focused listener who can extract key insights and validate understanding. Must hold a valid passport and be willing to travel internationally if required.
