Legrand is a global specialist in electrical and digital building infrastructure. The Mechanical Engineer II provides electrical and mechanical engineering support for the commercialization, application, and customization of all Starline products. Works under moderate supervision with limited problem‑solving responsibility while working under defined guidelines.

What Will You Do?

  • Conceptualize and implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) / Test (DFT) / Assembly (DFA) and Full Turnkey solutions.
  • Support the engineering team tasked with the commercialization and launch of Starline designed products.
  • Perform engineering design tasks and provide feedback in support of customer specific customizations of Starline products.
  • Create technical documentation such as drawings, design instructions, purchasing specifications, O&M Manuals, installation instructions, work instructions and product catalogs.
  • Support the integration of 3rd party products with Starline’s product offerings.
  • Conduct testing required, verifying product performance, system integration and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Partner with Production, Quality, and Purchasing staff to assure product manufacturability.
  • Help to support improvements to Starline’s engineering information systems to ensure high quality engineering information is provided to production and other customers of this information.
  • Support the automation of design tasks.
  • Provide guidance to Drafters to support project goals.
  • Ability to check the work of others including Drafters and Engineers.
  • Jobsite support.
  • Collaboration with certification laboratories such as VDE as well as various international agencies.
  • Provide lab testing support.
  • Participate in Team‑based initiatives within Starline.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the engineering field.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required up to 10%.
  • Prior experience with Starline products is a plus.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Experience using AutoCAD, Inventor and/or the VAULT.
  • Experience with an ERP system – Syteline Preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, communications, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office tools.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer satisfaction including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of project management processes and principles.
  • Knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing methodologies and techniques.

Personal Qualities / Behaviors

  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where, under certain areas, the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection are required.
  • Able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
