At a Glance Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Production Supervisor to join the Starline Team in Reading, UK. The Production Supervisor for the 2nd shift (2.30pm to 11:00pm) is responsible for all activities, output and performance of the in-house manufacturing processes and the personnel who perform them. The Production Supervisor must model high standards of conduct and lead by example according to Legrand’s values. This position is responsible for ensuring that all products meet quality specifications, testing requirements and design criteria. The Production Supervisor will ensure that safety, quality, productivity and efficiency goals are met by closely monitoring operational metrics, identifying areas of improvement and taking appropriate action.

Main Job Duties:

  • Ensure that Health and Safety rules and regulations are adhered to during the shift in line with Legrand’s health and safety policies.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and standards covering mechanical assemblies and electrical circuit drawings and translating into build assembly sequence.
  • Identify process gaps and drive corrective actions while coordinating with Quality, Engineering, Logistics, and Operations department.
  • Plan, assign, and direct overall work within the department; manage workflow and resolve execution barriers in a timely manner.
  • Manage, develop and motivate direct and indirect reporting staff.
  • Lead Legrand team members to produce quality products on time according to company policies.
  • Supervise Legrand team members according to Legrand leadership development training.
  • Lead and manage assigned manufacturing processes utilizing the Legrand Way Tier 1 & 2 meetings.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all output built meets departmental standards of safety, quality, productivity, efficiency, 6S and budgetary (tools, scrap, etc.) goals.
  • Develop and train new and existing employees to assist them in achieving their goals; identify talent gaps, develop high potentials, and manage underperformance appropriately.
  • Prepare the oncoming shift for success and well documented shift transition via handover document.
  • Work with off-shift supervisors to maintain a productive relationship between shifts and manage production handovers effectively.
  • Have an active role in the company’s continuous improvement plans for future growth of the organization.
  • Evaluate and track quality and production processes in accordance with the ISO 9001 standards in place.
  • Adhere to all company policies, guidelines and practices including the values.
  • Provide input into departmental budget.
  • Purchase non-inventory supplies as required.
  • Assist in manual labor processes on an as-needed basis.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
  • Liaison between front line employees and all levels of management; key point of contact for all shop related communications.

Qualifications

  • Education: HNC/ HND or Bachelor’s in Engineering or Operations desirable; Associate degree required or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ leadership experience in manufacturing environment, including apprenticeships.
  • Experience supervising $50M company.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing concepts, including 6S.
  • Team building skills including ability to resolve conflict while maintaining harmonious work environment.
  • Proficiency using MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP (Infor Syteline preferred), BOM, and inventory flow/control.
  • Solid understanding of Engineering concepts covering mechanical drawings and electrical circuits.
  • Proven ability to lead teams while achieving goals.
  • Proven ability to develop individuals and teams.
  • Proven ability to work in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

  • Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk and communicate with others.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25lbs.
