At a Glance Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineering Intern to join the Starline Team in Reading, UK. Support the Manufacturing Engineering team in implementing process improvements, automation initiatives, and layout optimization activities that align with Starline’s Operations Roadmap. The intern will contribute to data collection, analysis, CAD documentation, and the development of assembly aids to improve efficiency, quality, and safety in manufacturing operations.

Main Job Duties:

  • Conduct time and motion studies to support takt-time analysis and line balancing.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining factory floor layouts using CAD software.
  • Support the creation and deployment of digital Work Instructions (eFlex).
  • Design and 3D print jigs, fixtures, and assembly aids to improve efficiency and ergonomics.
  • Collect and analyze production and downtime data for process improvement and dashboard validation.
  • Participate in 5S audits, visual management updates, and continuous improvement events.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineers in identifying process constraints and supporting relief actions.
  • Maintain organized documentation for manufacturing improvements and engineering changes.

Qualifications

Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering (Junior or Senior year preferred).

Experience: Previous internship or project experience in a manufacturing or production environment preferred. Exposure to Lean Manufacturing principles or process improvement methodologies beneficial.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent CAD software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Hands-on aptitude and mechanical understanding.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing or additive manufacturing techniques.
  • Basic understanding of process documentation and workflow optimization.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with data visualization tools (Power BI) is a plus.
