This is a newly created, high-impact role sitting at the centre of our global risk strategy. You’ll lead how we design, manage and evolve Merlin’s insurance programme across multiple markets — partnering with senior leaders, brokers and global teams to protect our people, our guests and our business. You’ll also act as a trusted advisor to the Corporate Governance & Secretariat Director and Chief Legal Officer, bringing clarity, insight and confidence to complex decisions.
What you’ll be doing
- Shape our global insurance strategy
- Define and deliver a forward‑thinking insurance programme aligned to our business goals and evolving risk landscape. You’ll anticipate what’s next and make sure we’re ready.
- Be a trusted advisor at the top
- Partner with senior leadership to provide expert guidance on insurance, risk transfer and emerging exposures — turning complexity into clear, actionable insight.
- Lead renewal and risk optimisation
- Own the annual renewal process end‑to‑end, working closely with brokers and internal stakeholders to secure the right cover at the right value.
- Manage risk where it matters most
- Oversee major claims and protect Merlin’s reputation through balanced, commercially sound decision‑making. You’ll ensure the right approach, at the right time, with the right people involved.
- Build strong external partnerships
- Lead relationships with brokers, insurers and third‑party administrators — driving performance, value and accountability across all partners.
- Drive operational excellence
- Create robust processes, improve data quality, and use insights to continuously strengthen our insurance approach across the business.
- Support the wider business
- Collaborate with Legal, Property, Finance and Operations to advise on contracts, developments and day‑to‑day insurance queries — making sure we’re covered, every step of the way.
- Communicate with impact
- Deliver clear, compelling recommendations to senior stakeholders and the Board. You’ll make insurance accessible, relevant and understood across a global audience.
Qualifications & Experience
- Significant experience in insurance or risk management (ideally within a complex, international business)
- Strong knowledge of global insurance markets and relevant policy types
- Proven ability to lead insurance strategy and business partnering at a senior level
- Experience managing brokers, insurers and claims processes
- Skilled in analysing data and turning it into meaningful insight
- Confident communicator, able to influence and engage at all levels
- Experience reviewing insurance provisions in contracts and leases
- ACII qualification or equivalent (desirable)
