LEGO Digital Play is building something new, and we are looking for a Senior Art Director to join our leadership team and help shape it from the very beginning. This is a rare opportunity to define a visual identity from day one, working alongside a team that believes great creative work comes from great collaboration - and that the best ideas often start with play.
This role is multi-faceted; you will set the artistic direction, build and grow the art organisation, establish processes and pipelines, and help shape our creative culture. The right person brings deep experience, an informed perspective, and the generosity to elevate everyone around them. As the Senior Art Director, you’ll sit at the intersection of UGC and game art - two distinct creative mentalities that this person needs to hold simultaneously. You will champion a philosophy where user reach matters more than render fidelity, and where accessibility and creative empowerment are as important as visual ambition. You will partner and collaborate closely with leads across multiple disciplines, building strong, trusting relationships as the foundation for great work. If you are energised by building something meaningful alongside creative people who care deeply about their work, we would love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Acts as a creative authority and cultural anchor for the art organisation setting the vision and bringing the team with you.
- Defines and owns the complete visual identity of the experience, developing visual approaches and style systems with the creator experience in mind - ensuring the aesthetic empowers players to build as well as play.
- Sets the creative standard and upholds it rigorously across all workstreams and outputs.
- Champions a user-first approach to art direction - prioritising reach, accessibility, and creative empowerment over render fidelity.
- Owns the art organisation - structuring the team, placing the right people in the right roles, and building a culture of craft, trust, and accountability.
- Delegates effectively and empowers team members to own their work, make decisions, and grow.
- Builds strong, trusted relationships with leads across multiple disciplines to align creative vision with technical and product reality.
- Establishes art pipelines, production processes, and tooling that scale with the organisation.
- Creates and maintains style guides, design systems, and visual standards.
- Presents creative direction and vision to internal stakeholders with clarity and confidence.
- Owns budget forecasting and resource planning for the art organisation.
- Plans and manages outsource partners to extend the team's capacity and output.
Qualifications
Must Have
- Extensive experience at Art Director level, with a track record of shipping high-profile game titles.
- Proven ability to define and own a visual identity for a digital product end-to-end, across multiple titles or releases.
- Experience spanning both UGC and game art, with a clear understanding of how visual systems serve player creativity across both mentalities.
- A demonstrated philosophy that user reach and accessibility take precedence over technical or visual complexity.
- Experience at a large consumer brand or entertainment company.
- Experience working with licensed IP or external brand partners.
- Demonstrated success building and leading art teams - hiring, developing talent, and setting the bar for craft.
- A collaborative leader who delegates with confidence and empowers others to do their best work.
- Deep understanding of art pipelines, production workflows, and how to build them from scratch.
- Proven outsourcing planning and management experience.
- A strategic thinker with an exceptional eye for craft and detail.
- Self-directed and decisive, with a genuine commitment to team culture and shared success.
Nice to Have
- Background in platform or UGC game development.
- Experience applying AI tools in creative workflows and production pipelines.
- Familiarity with real-time rendering pipelines and technical art constraints.
