LEGO Digital Play will bring the LEGO brand into digital entertainment in new, innovative, and wholly owned ways. Our mission is to ensure the LEGO brand remains as powerfully a part of children’s lives in the coming decades as it has ever been. We aim to reach every kid on the planet, their parents, and adult fans of LEGO, and provide them with meaningful, magical, and playful new experiences. We are looking for a Senior Technical Artist to join LEGO Digital Play’s team in a founding, hands-on role. The role sits at the intersection of art, tooling, engines, and research. Work is prototype-driven, exploratory, and collaborative, supporting scientists, ML engineers, and designers in bringing experimental systems into an interactive, engine-based context. This position supports exploratory research into creative systems and their application to LEGO building in silica. The work will surface in software and games but is foundational in nature rather than tied to specific shipping titles.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to pipelines for the preparation, inspection, and processing of 3D data (geometry, bricks, decals, rigs, metadata) for use in ML, simulation, and real-time environments.
- Stand up and iterate on technical art pipelines in game engines and DCC applications.
- Create and adapt rigs and procedural assets, and contribute to prototype-level implementations to support rapid experimentation.
- Stand up and iterate on interaction mechanics.
- Act as a technical art counterpart to ML and research workflows, advising on feasibility, constraints, and integration paths into interactive systems.
- Navigate ambiguity independently, shaping solutions where no established pipeline exists.
Required Skills And Experience
- Senior-level technical artist with strong autonomy and comfort operating in loosely defined problem spaces.
- Extensive experience in the games or visual effects industry.
- Fluent in at least one DCC application and its procedural tools (Side Effects Houdini or Autodesk Maya preferred).
- Comfortable with at least one game engine and DCC to Engine asset turnaround (Unity or Unreal Engine).
- Able to move fluidly between data, tooling, assets, and game engines.
- Pragmatic, exploratory mindset, biased toward prototyping, iteration, learning, and sharing findings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Comfortable with prototyping and modifying in-game and game-system interactions (Unity or Unreal Engine).
- Experience with mobile development.
- One or more shipped titles, or multi-year experience in a real-time–centric department within visual effects.
- Plugin development for DCC applications and/or game engine editors.
- Rigging experience.
- Real-time VFX and procedural content experience.
- Ability and interest in contributing to team development.
