Company Overview

LEGO Digital Play will bring the LEGO brand into digital entertainment in new, innovative, and wholly‑owned ways. Our mission is to ensure the LEGO Brand remains as powerfully a part of children’s lives in the coming decades as it has ever been. We aim to reach every kid on the planet, their parents, and adult fans of LEGO—and provide them with meaningful, magical, and playful new experiences. We are at the earliest phases of this new company, offering a unique opportunity to build a new entity for the world's most beloved and trusted brand. Our culture is open, collaborative, intellectually rigorous, and creatively vibrant.

Role Overview

We are seeking Senior Software Engineers to design, build and operate the engineering capabilities that make this platform real. The Developer Platform covers SDKs and APIs both local and on backend, validation and policy services, asset and content pipelines, engine integrations and developer tooling, and we are hiring across several specialisations to cover this surface area. You will join a cross‑functional team building business‑critical platform services and putting them into the hands of internal and external studios. You will own substantial components within your area of strength, partner with product and studio teams to understand how the platform is used, and help shape the standards that hold the platform together. At this level we look for either significant breadth across several of the areas below or exceptional depth in one or two. Tell us where you bring strength and where you would want to grow:

  • Backend services, distributed systems and cloud infrastructure for developer‑facing platforms.
  • SDKs, APIs and client libraries used by other engineering teams.
  • Engine and runtime integration, such as Unity, Unreal or comparable environments.
  • 3D asset pipelines, content systems and authoring tools.
  • Validation, policy, rules and certification services.
  • Developer experience, reference implementations, tooling and documentation systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build and operate platform components in your area of depth, whether SDKs, backend services, engine integrations, asset pipelines or developer tooling, with a strong focus on reliability, scalability and maintainability.
  • Partner with platform leadership, product partners and other engineers to translate platform strategy into well‑scoped technical work and shape architectural decisions in your domain.
  • Own delivery quality for the components you build across testing, CI/CD, observability, reliability, security and release management.
  • Contribute to the platform's technical standards across assets, metadata, versioning, schemas and API design, and ensure your work aligns with broader interoperability goals.
  • Work directly with engine, tools and game teams to understand integration needs and make sure the platform fits cleanly into their workflows.
  • Apply governance by design so the components you build are secure, compliant and aligned with brand, safety and policy requirements for child‑safe digital experiences.
  • Help raise the technical bar across the team through design reviews, code reviews and shared technical practices.
  • Communicate trade‑offs and decisions clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences across LEGO Digital Play.

Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, STEM field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Significant hands‑on software engineering experience designing and operating non‑trivial systems end to end, with a track record of owning components in production.
  • Depth in at least one of the platform specialisation areas listed above, paired with enough breadth to collaborate effectively with engineers working in adjacent areas.
  • Strong programming skills in multiple languages of different levels as applicable to your domain, with the ability to remain deeply hands‑on in implementation, debugging and code review.
  • Awareness and practical experience of software development at scale, including CI/CD, automated testing, observability and release management.
  • Exposure to building entertainment or interactive content software, in any of games, engines, computer graphics, asset and content pipelines, or creative tools.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non‑technical audiences, including studios, product and cross‑functional partners.
  • Experience contributing to platform capabilities used by multiple internal teams or external developers, including reference implementations, technical documentation and developer support models.
  • Comfortable operating in early‑stage environments where standards and practices are still being established.

Nice to have

  • Understanding of governance across security, privacy, trust and safety, IP and brand controls and child‑safe or regulated digital environments.
  • Experience building brand‑safe or regulated consumer ecosystems, including moderation, partner governance and strong trust, safety and security requirements.
  • Experience with rules engines, validation systems, certification workflows or policy‑driven service design.
  • Experience with 3D asset pipelines, semantic content systems, procedural generation, CAD‑to‑runtime conversion or hybrid physical‑digital workflows.
  • Experience with provenance, attribution, identity, permissions or entitlement systems in creator or UGC ecosystems.
  • Experience defining or evolving technical standards such as schemas, versioned APIs, file and data formats and reusable abstractions.
  • Experience mentoring more junior engineers and the ability to present your work so it can influence other components.
