LEGO Digital Play is building the next generation of digital game experiences inspired by the LEGO® brand. We are looking for a Director of Technical Operations to help shape and scale the technical foundation that enables our game development, publishing, and R&D initiatives. This role sits at the intersection of technology, partnerships, compliance, and delivery. You will ensure that teams - both internal and external - are empowered with the right tools, platforms, and processes to build and operate high-quality, safe, and scalable digital play experiences.
You will be responsible for establishing and managing relationships with a wide range of external technical partners, from major cloud and platform providers (such as Google, AWS, and GitHub) to specialized tools, licenses, and service vendors. These relationships are long-term partnerships that must reflect LEGO values around trust, safety, and quality. Internally, you will work closely with IT, infrastructure, game teams, and publishing, acting as a bridge between development needs and organizational requirements such as security, data protection, and compliance. As LEGO Digital Play grows, this role will evolve from hands-on technical leadership into a broader coordination and leadership position across multiple technical domains.
Technical Operations Leadership- Define and oversee cross-team technical services that support multiple development streams across LEGO Digital Play, including internal teams, external studios, and R&D initiatives.
- Drive alignment between infrastructure, IT, game development, publishing, and external partners.
- Own the strategy and governance for core development platforms, tools, and third-party services used across LEGO Digital Play.
- Balance developer autonomy with non-negotiable principles around security, data privacy, IP protection, AI policy, and operational reliability.
- Partner with IT and infrastructure teams to ensure systems are robust, scalable, and appropriate for both rapid prototyping and live operations.
- Establish, manage, and evolve relationships with internal and external technical partners, vendors, and service providers.
- Oversee contracts, licensing models, and service integrations in collaboration with Legal, Finance, and Procurement.
- Act as a trusted technical counterpart to partners, ensuring alignment on expectations, roadmaps, and delivery.
- Collaborate with Legal, Security, Data Protection, Product Development, and Publishing functions to ensure compliance with relevant regulations, internal policies, and industry standards.
- Support cybersecurity and data protection initiatives related to development pipelines and live services.
- 10+ years of experience working with modern cloud platforms and development ecosystems, including hands-on experience with at least two major cloud or platform providers supporting large-scale development and live operations.
- 10+ years of experience in the games industry or closely related digital entertainment domains, with a strong understanding of game production lifecycles, live services, and operating products at scale.
- 5+ years of experience in senior technical leadership roles, leading technical leaders and teams across infrastructure, platforms, tooling, or production.
- Proven experience building and scaling technical organizations or new entities, including defining foundational platforms, processes, and governance in fast-growing or unstructured environments.
- Demonstrated ability to influence technical strategy, standards, and policies at organizational scale, impacting large, cross-functional groups (100+ people).
- Proven track record managing external partners and vendors, including negotiating contracts, licensing models, and long-term service agreements in collaboration with Legal and Finance.
- Strong experience with financial management in technical environments (FinOps), including cloud spend, tooling costs, and vendor budgets.
- Solid understanding of security, data protection, and compliance in digital and game development contexts, with experience embedding these requirements into platforms and workflows.
