What You’ll Do:

• As our first Head of Data at Legl, you'll build out and lead an expanding function for us.
• Set, own, and report against the data strategy. Define the data roadmap at Legl; transition us from a request queue to a self-serve engine; set clear and business-impacting goals; and report against those to the Exec team.
• Enable data-first decision making across our Commercial & Product teams. Be the data partner to the business for strategic commercial decisions. Enable teams with accurate, trusted, accessible data they can make decisions from - from pricing new products, to forecasting, to revenue and usage.
• Define, lead and manage the org. Align Data’s resourcing needs with the business needs and strategic direction. Set the bar for how the function attracts, levels and retains. Know when to steer and when to get hands-on.
• Own internal tools that relate to data. From how our data feeds into billing, to our semantic and knowledge layers, have a product-mindset in ensuring that we are solving the right internal problems in the right way.
• Assess and iterate our Data stack from first-principles. Today, our stack is: Snowflake for the warehouse, dbt Core for transformation, Fivetran for ingestion, Github Actions for CI and scheduling, Metabase for BI, Claude Code on the daily, and a Snowflake Cortex semantic layer that lets colleagues and AI tools query the business in plain English.

This Role Is a Great Fit If You…

• Have led a data or analytics function at a growth-stage company, and are commercial and technical at once - you connect data investment to business outcomes and are able to hold your peers across Product, Engineering & GTM to the same business-outcomes standard using data.
• Naturally reframe requests into problems and are able to ruthlessly prioritise around the most impactful problems to solve.
• Are both knowledgeable across our modern stack to challenge decision making but also close enough to the tech to remain hands-on when the small team needs it.
• Are genuinely fluent in AI as a working tool: you use it daily, know where it's leverage versus noise, verify before trusting, and understand that better AI demands a better data foundation beneath it.
• Measure yourself on outcomes which move commercial & operational needles forward - rather than dashboards or tickets completed.
• Are as comfortable operating at the Exec level as you are partnering with functional operators.

This Role Is Not a Great Fit If You…

• Want a purely strategic seat and delegate all technical judgement & activities - or, conversely, want a deep hands-on IC/architect role with no stakeholder or leadership load.
• Need a mature function and a finished playbook to inherit, rather than building one.
• Are uncomfortable saying no, owning prioritisation, or being the single accountable voice for data in the room.
