Overview

Leggwork is working with a leading infrastructure and civil engineering Tier 1 contractor who are looking to recruit a Project Manager to join their Regional Civil Engineering team in Somerset. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Manager, Civil Engineering Project Manager with a strong highways background to take responsibility for a range of projects being delivered through Somerset Council Frameworks. This is a key role within the regional team, offering the opportunity to take ownership of multiple projects while working closely with Somerset Council, subcontractors, supply chain partners and local stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver a range of highways and civil engineering projects across Somerset Council frameworks.
  • Take overall responsibility for project delivery, including programme, commercial performance, resources, quality and health & safety.
  • Manage and motivate site teams, creating a collaborative and high-performing working environment.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Somerset Council, clients, subcontractors and supply chain partners.
  • Manage project costs, budgets, forecasting and overall project and package P&L.
  • Develop and manage programmes, identifying potential delays, risks and opportunities.
  • Plan and coordinate site activities across highways, road construction, drainage and associated infrastructure works.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme and to the required quality standards.
  • Promote a strong culture of health, safety, environmental responsibility and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and develop project team members and support their professional development.
  • Proactively identify and resolve project issues, ensuring successful outcomes for the client and business.

Essential Requirements

  • 5+ years' experience as a Project Manager within highways, civil engineering or infrastructure construction.
  • Strong experience delivering highways, road or associated infrastructure projects.
  • Proficient understanding of NEC contracts, ideally NEC3 & NEC4 Options A - E.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project financial performance.
  • Good programme management experience.
  • SMSTS.
  • Valid CSCS card.
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, a related discipline, or demonstrable equivalent industry experience.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities across the Somerset region.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, quality and environmental requirements.

Desirable Experience

  • Drainage and associated civil engineering works.
  • Lean / Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Experience working for a main contractor or tier-one civil engineering business.
  • Experience delivering projects for local authorities or through highways frameworks.
