Leggwork have partnered with a leading UK Highway / Traffic Management company who (in line with their 2025 growth plans) are seeking a skilled VAS/VMS Sign Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing roadside electronic signage systems, including Variable Message Signs (VMS), Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS), CCTV, and MESH networks. The engineer will ensure that all tasks are completed safely and in compliance with Health and Safety regulations while maintaining a high level of professionalism and efficiency. Key Responsibilities Perform installations and setup of signage, CCTV, and MESH systems. Commission systems in collaboration with clients, ensuring correct operation. Troubleshoot and repair equipment faults within set contract timelines. Carry out routine checks and servicing of systems as per maintenance schedules. Build strong working relationships with clients, demonstrating excellent customer service. Ensure safety standards are followed, particularly during installation, maintenance, and fault resolution. Occasionally work evenings, weekends, and be available for out-of-hours call-outs on a rota basis. Complete necessary documentation relating to site activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Support other duties as required to contribute to the smooth operation of the company. Be adaptable to changing priorities and handle multiple tasks under pressure. Work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative. On occasion, overnight stays at job sites may be required, with hotel accommodation provided. Qualifications / Experience At least 12 months' experience working as a “Highways Electrician” or similar role. Experience with electronic signage, traffic signal systems, vehicle detection technology, CCTV, or MESH networks is desirable. Prior work on highways or similar infrastructure projects. Electrical qualifications such as C&G or equivalent. Proficient in using IT systems. Strong communication skills, capable of interacting professionally with internal and external parties. A sound understanding of Health & Safety regulations and environmental guidelines. (Training provided where necessary) Practical electrical knowledge to effectively manage and understand systems and equipment. Good organisational abilities, with the capacity to manage tasks independently. Willingness to pass safety-critical medical and drug/alcohol testing, as required by the company and our clients.
