Job Title: Project Manager - Surveying & Geospatial
Location: Crawley, West Sussex
Salary: £50,000-£60,000 + Car Allowance
Employment: Permanent, Full-Time
Working Arrangement: Office-based
The Opportunity
Leggwork are currently recruiting for an exciting opportunity with a specialist surveying business based in Crawley.
We are looking for a Project Manager with a strong understanding of Topographical and Utility Surveying to join an established team and play a key role in the pricing, planning and delivery of surveying projects.
This is a hands‑on position where you will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from receiving an initial enquiry and preparing quotations through to managing the job, dealing directly with clients and ensuring the quality of the final survey deliverables.
You will work closely with the Survey Manager and wider surveying team, helping to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, commercially and to the required standard.
For the right individual, there is a genuine opportunity to progress into a General Manager position as you take on greater responsibility across the wider operation.
The Role
As Project Manager, you will be part of the team responsible for pricing and running surveying projects, with responsibilities including:
- Reviewing client enquiries and preparing quotations for surveying works
- Understanding project scopes, specifications and client requirements
- Planning and coordinating surveying projects from initial instruction through to completion
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously and ensuring they remain on programme
- Acting as a key point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships
- Liaising with surveyors and the wider operational team to ensure projects are properly planned and resourced
- Monitoring project progress and resolving issues as they arise
- Reviewing survey information and deliverables to ensure the required quality standards are met
- Working alongside the Survey Manager to maintain quality across all surveying projects
- Supporting the commercial management of projects, including pricing, scope and profitability
- Identifying opportunities to improve project delivery and operational efficiency
- Contributing to the continued growth and development of the surveying team
About You
We are looking for someone with a genuine understanding of surveying who can comfortably operate between the technical, commercial and client-facing sides of a project.
You will ideally have:
- Experience within Topographical and/or Utility Surveying
- A strong understanding of the fundamentals of topographical and utility surveys
- Previous experience in a Project Manager, Survey Manager, Senior Surveyor or similar position
- Experience with preparing quotations or contributing to project pricing
- Strong client-facing and communication skills
- The ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
- A strong eye for detail and quality
- Good commercial awareness
- The ability to understand a survey brief and translate it into a practical scope of works
- A proactive approach to problem solving and project delivery
Knowledge of PAS 128, utility mapping, GPR, EML or wider geospatial surveying would be advantageous, but the key requirement is a solid surveying foundation combined with the ability to manage projects and clients effectively.
Progression
This is a particularly good opportunity for someone who wants to develop beyond traditional project management.
The successful candidate will become an important part of the management team, taking increasing responsibility for pricing, project delivery, client relationships, quality and the wider operation.
For the right person, there is a clear progression path towards General Manager, providing the opportunity to take significant responsibility for the future growth and development of the business.
The Opportunity
If you are currently working within surveying and are ready to take the next step into a broader project and commercial management position, this could be an excellent opportunity to develop your career.
Equally, if you are already managing surveying projects and are looking for a position where there is a genuine route into senior operational management, we would be keen to hear from you.
