Legatics is looking for an early-career lawyer or legal operations specialist to run and build out our internal legal function. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who wants broad exposure across commercial contracts, data protection, compliance and legal operations in a fast-growing LegalTech business. This role also offers the opportunity to step outside a traditional legal remit and contribute to impactful projects across the wider business.

The core part of the role is to work closely with our commercial teams and business heads, supporting customer contract processes end to end, keeping our playbooks and trackers current, and helping us run a tidy, well-documented compliance and data protection program in collaboration with our infosec team and other key stakeholders. You'll own the day-to-day legal operations. This role is about ownership of process, accuracy and getting things done.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to grow quickly, learn across multiple legal disciplines and shape how a scale-up runs its legal operations.

What you'd be doing:

  • Negotiating SaaS contract with new customers, in line with playbook positions
  • Coordinating the administration of customer contract processes: first-draft prep, filing, checks and post-signature filing
  • Maintaining our customer contracts summary matrix, playbooks and templates so they stay accurate and current
  • Supporting renewal preparation, negotiation and tracking, flagging upcoming dates and gathering the inputs needed
  • Helping complete customer due diligence questions (e.g. privacy and data protection sections of infosec questionnaires), working with the Product and Infosec team where needed
  • Running and maintaining our supply chain risk management process, supporting supplier onboarding, approval and annual checks
  • Keeping data protection records up to date, including records of processing and changes in supplier usage
  • Running the GDPR compliance program: ROPA upkeep, supporting DPIAs and related assessments, and preparing for compliance group meetings
  • Acting as first-line legal support across departments (Finance, Operations, Commercial, Marketing, People), resolving queries and routing anything that needs additional input to other stakeholders or external advisers

What we need from you:

  • Either a qualified lawyer early in their career (newly qualified up to around 3 years PQE) or a legal operations or paralegal professional with strong relevant experience
  • A desire to explore and understand what the business needs, and effect solutions that provide for those needs proactively
  • Excellent written and oral communication, with the ability to explain process and rationale clearly to non-legal colleagues
  • Strong attention to detail and a genuine enjoyment of accurate, well-organized work
  • A pragmatic, solutions-focused attitude and comfort working independently in an unstructured environment
  • An interest in data protection, compliance and legal operations, and a willingness to learn across new areas
  • Confidence using software and an interest in how technology and AI can improve legal workflows
  • A right to work in the UK (we are not able to support visa sponsorship at this stage)
  • Ability to work from our offices based in Temple, twice a week

Bonus points (not essential):

  • Experience in a start-up or scale-up SaaS business
  • Exposure to data protection or privacy work
  • Familiarity with contract management tools or legal tech
  • Experience improving or documenting processes

What we offer you:

  • Competitive salary (depending on experience)
  • 25 days holiday per year (plus public holidays)
  • Early Finish Fridays - on the last Friday of every month, we finish at lunchtime!
  • Pension with NEST
  • Personal Learning & Development budget
  • Enhanced parental leave policies so you can spend more time with your family
  • Lots of opportunities for accelerated professional development and career progression
  • Work alongside a supportive and talented team with the opportunity to grow one of the world’s leading LegalTech scale-ups
  • A warm, genuinely collaborative culture and an awesome team; and
  • Regular socials

In order to make that a reality, we seek to foster a diverse and inclusive working environment that can empower our people to be creative, effective and innovative, to build a brand we are proud of.
