Legatics is looking for a commercially minded, experienced lawyer to act as our fractional Legal Counsel on a part‑time basis. You’ll be the legal lead for the business, providing and effecting speedy and practical advice and solutions across commercial contracts, data protection, corporate matters and compliance. This role suits a senior lawyer who wants flexible, fractional work and is comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy and accountability.

About Legatics: Legatics is one of the world’s leading LegalTech scale‑ups. We put users at the heart of our design to provide legal transaction experiences that everybody loves, and we’re on a mission to transform the market for legal services worldwide. Legatics is a transaction management platform that streamlines the way lawyers collaborate and close deals, transforming traditional paper and email based processes into simple, highly automated software. Our customers include some of the world’s top law firms, and Legatics has been used on live transactions originating in more than 20 countries.

The role: This is a part‑time, fractional engagement (we anticipate around 10 hours per week, with flexibility around peaks such as renewals, fundraising or insurance renewal season). The role would in part need to react to issues when they arise, so the fractional hours would not be fixed in any given week. We offer a flexible working arrangement, including remote, office‑based, or hybrid options. Please note that while the role can be performed remotely, we expect occasional attendance at our central London office.

As the legal lead, your focus will be negotiating and finalising customer SaaS agreements, advising business heads on commercial contracts, owning data protection issues for the business, and supporting the Exec on corporate governance and compliance. We need a pragmatic leader who is comfortable wearing many hats; you will be the sole point of legal accountability, which means being fully involved in both the high‑level strategy and the essential administrative details.

What you’d be doing:

  • Acting as the legal representative for the business, owning legal risk and knowing when to bring in external specialist counsel.
  • Leading negotiation and execution of customer SaaS agreements within sales cycle timeframes and needs, and advising the commercial team on contract strategy.
  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts across departments (NDAs, partnership, marketing and supplier agreements).
  • Advising on privacy and data protection, including policies and the functioning of our product, in a complex international environment.
  • Owning the GDPR compliance programme: DPIAs, LIAs, transfer risk assessments, ROPA oversight and records of law and regulation.
  • Supporting the Exec with corporate governance, compliance and cap table or option scheme matters.
  • Acting as Product Counsel on new ways of processing personal data, AI features and similar developments.
  • Managing any disputes with customers or suppliers, and providing legal input on data incidents.
  • Supporting fundraising when it arises.

What we need from you:

  • A qualified lawyer currently admitted to practice in the UK, with substantial post‑qualification experience (we’d expect around 6+ years PQE given the seniority, autonomy and sole‑counsel nature of the role).
  • Strong experience drafting and negotiating technology or SaaS contracts.
  • A solid grounding in data protection and privacy, ideally in a complex or international setting.
  • The judgement and confidence to act as a sole in‑house lawyer: owning risk, setting direction and knowing the limits of your own expertise.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate legal concepts for non‑legal colleagues.
  • A pragmatic, commercial mindset that presents solutions rather than problems.
  • A willingness to be a generalist across data security, disputes, employment, compliance, IP and corporate governance.
  • A right to work in the UK (we are not able to support visa sponsorship at this stage).

What we offer you:

  • Competitive salary (depending on experience).
  • 25 days holiday per year (plus public holidays).
  • Early Finish Fridays - on the last Friday of every month, we finish at lunchtime!
  • Pension with NEST.
  • Personal Learning & Development budget.
  • Enhanced parental leave policies so you can spend more time with your family.
  • Lots of opportunities for accelerated professional development and career progression.
  • Work alongside a supportive and talented team with the opportunity to grow one of the world’s leading LegalTech scale‑ups.
  • A warm, genuinely collaborative culture and an awesome team; and
  • Regular socials.

Power in diversity: We put users at the heart of our design to provide legal transaction experiences that everyone loves. In order to make that a reality, we seek to foster a diverse and inclusive working environment that can empower our people to be creative, effective and innovative, to build a brand we are proud of. We don’t discriminate against gender, race, religion or belief, disability, age, marital status or sexual orientation. Whatever your background may be, we welcome anyone with talent, drive and emotional intelligence. We’re committed to building a diverse team, and are constantly looking for ways to improve our processes to help us do that.
