A legal secretary will assist the Private Client Department at our Luton-based firm. The role involves document preparation, diary management, client communication and administrative support for fee earners.
Responsibilities
- Produce documents and correspondence using digital audio/dictation and copy typing.
- Create and manage standard template documents such as probate applications, wills and LPAs.
- Cost and bill files, claim and pay disbursements.
- Attend to client enquiries by telephone or in person.
- Maintain fee earners’ diaries, schedule appointments, arrange meetings and travel.
- Set up new files accurately and promptly on instruction.
- Maintain client details on the firm’s database (ALB) and update as required.
- Handle filing and storage/retrieval of client files.
- Ensure Lexcel compliance, manage money‑laundering checks and record‑keeping.
- Support department admin and provide secretarial support to fee earners.
- Apply GDPR principles and secure sensitive information.
- Perform ad‑hoc duties requested by professional staff.
- Assist in firm‑wide and departmental marketing events.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a legal secretary, preferably in private client.
- Audio dictation and typing skills.
- Organisational skills and ability to prioritise work.
- Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- IT skills – case‑management system, MS Word, Outlook, Excel.
- Knowledge of private client law: wills, LPAs, trusts and probate.
- Understanding of GDPR and the handling of confidential data.
