We have been safeguarding people's financial futures since 1836, and strive to build a better society, while improving the lives of our customers and creating value for shareholders. We are a leading global player in pension risk transfer (PRT) and the UK's largest Asset Manager. We have written more than £40bn of PRT in the last 4 years and look after around 700,000 institutional customers who have their retirement benefits secured with us. Our Institutional Retirement division provides PRT solutions for UK and US defined benefit (DB) schemes, and reinsurance solutions from our global hub in Bermuda. We work with companies, DB pension schemes and their advisors to help them secure and protect scheme members' retirement benefits.

Joining us means you'll support customers' financial security in retirement; help companies to settle their pension liabilities and focus on growing their businesses; and enable investment for the long term to back our pension promises.

Who we are

Institutional Retirement is the only insurer to have been operating continuously in the UK market from our entrance in 1987 to the present day. Our UK retirement annuity book stands at an estimated £86.1 billion at 31 December 2023. Across our retail and institutional retirement businesses, we look after more than 1 million customers, around c.700,000 of whom are institutional customers who have had their retirement benefits secured with us.

Job Description

We are looking for a Strategy Senior Analyst to join our Institutional Retirement division, to support high-impact strategic initiatives across the business and the wider L&G Group. Working within our Corporate Development function, you'll contribute to shaping our global commercial strategy, supporting decision-making, assessing growth opportunities and helping evolve our investment approach. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys cross-functional collaboration, thrives in a dynamic environment and wants to play a meaningful role in influencing strategic outcomes for a growing international business. This is a hybrid working opportunity, which means you can split your working week flexibly between your home and our London office in Moorgate to help you achieve a work-life balance that works for you.

What you'll be doing:

  • Supporting the development and optimisation of our global commercial strategy working closely with Pricing, Investments, Reinsurance and Business Partnering teams.
  • Contributing to the successful delivery of key strategic projects by carrying out essential research analysis and taking ownership of significant elements of projects and processes.
  • Assisting Strategy Directors and other senior leaders with BAU strategic activity, including the execution of major divisional transactions as well as managing and communicating our commercial strategy.
  • Working collaboratively across the L&G Group to optimise the balance sheet from a capital and liquidity perspective.
  • Conducting competitor analysis and gathering insights to inform divisional decision-making.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders across the division and wider Group to enable effective collaboration and awareness of evolving opportunities and pain points.
  • Facilitating communication between internal teams and external partners to support delivery of projects and solutions.
  • Embedding Conduct Risk principles into daily operations to ensure good customer outcomes.
  • Ensuring business processes and internal controls support effective risk management and positive customer outcomes.

Qualifications

Who we're looking for:

  • Strong quantitative skills, with significant progress towards or completion of an actuarial qualification, CFA or equivalent.
  • Understanding of insurance balance sheets, capital and profit reporting, and ALM principles.
  • Knowledge of Solvency II and ideally an awareness of US or Bermudian regulatory frameworks.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to a range of audiences.
  • Experience or awareness of the PRT market in the UK and/or US.
  • Ability to apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to delivery.
  • Ability to manage expectations effectively and keep stakeholders well informed.
  • An independent thinker who can confidently debate ideas constructively, when required.

Whatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Here are some of the benefits we offer:

  • Competitive Salary.
  • The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance-related bonus plan and valuable share schemes.
  • Generous pension contribution.
  • Life assurance.
  • Private medical insurance.
  • At least 25 days holiday, plus public holidays, 26 days after 2 years' service. There's also the option to buy and sell holiday.
  • Competitive family leave.
  • Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand-new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice.
  • There are the many discounts we offer - both for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online.
  • In 2023, some of our workspaces were redesigned. Our offices are great spaces to connect and collaborate and have your wellbeing at the heart.
