Job Description

We’re looking for an Investment Manager to join our Core Capital team within Institutional Retirement. Core Capital is a multi-asset portfolio spanning public and private markets, supporting strategic priorities including the Pension Risk Transfer business and seed or cornerstone investment in private market funds. In this varied and collaborative role, you’ll take ownership of portfolio management and investment oversight activities across the Core Capital portfolio, including portfolio monitoring, investment assessment, liquidity management, manager oversight, governance materials. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external investment managers, contribute to portfolio strategy and help strengthen our data, management information, processes and controls.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leading and contributing to initiatives relating to the Core Capital portfolio, including portfolio strategy, Core Capital SAA and portfolio metrics, and assessing the impact of proposed investment actions on return, risk and solvency metrics.
  • Evaluating new and existing investments across listed and private markets, coordinating due diligence, writing investment recommendations and supporting investments through the relevant governance and execution processes.
  • Overseeing investment and fund manager performance against targets, maintaining relationships and supporting investment recommendations.
  • Monitoring liquidity metrics and cash forecasts, recommending actions and coordinating asset sales, rebalancing and financing activities to meet cash requirements and maintain stress readiness.
  • Maintaining high standards for portfolio, fund and position data, overseeing reconciliations and remediation of data issues, and contributing to management information packs and governance commentary.
  • Drafting and presenting high-quality committee, board and stakeholder papers, setting out the analysis, rationale, risks, mitigants and recommended course of action.
  • Building relationships across internal teams and external partners, providing direction and constructive review to colleagues, sharing knowledge and helping to prioritise delivery across the team.

Who we're looking for:

  • A university degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline such as finance, economics, mathematics or engineering.
  • A professional qualification, or progress towards one, such as CFA, CAIA or IMC would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • Strong knowledge of investment analysis, portfolio or fund analytics, valuation, fixed income and/or alternative assets.
  • A good understanding of investment structures and the factors influencing risk, return and credit quality.
  • Relevant experience within investment management, portfolio analysis or investment oversight.
  • Experience assessing investments or monitoring funds and managers, with the ability to translate analysis into clear recommendations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence working collaboratively with senior stakeholders and external managers.
  • An adaptable and organised approach, with the ability to take ownership, prioritise effectively and deliver under pressure.
