Company Description

Legal & General (L&G) is a leading UK financial services group and major global investor. We’ve been safeguarding people’s financial futures since 1836, and strive to build a better society, while improving the lives of our customers and creating value for shareholders. We are one of the world’s largest asset managers and provide powerful asset origination capabilities. Together, these underpin our retirement and protection solutions: we are an international player in pension risk transfer, in UK and US life insurance, and in UK workplace pensions and retirement income. Our global asset management business provides our clients and partners with complex, responsible investment solutions, working internationally across public and private markets.

Who we are

We are one of Europe’s largest asset managers and a major global investor across public and private markets. Asset Management is a critical driver of our Group strategy. The business aims to work synergistically with our Institutional Retirement and Retail divisions to benefit our clients and customers, and deliver enhanced shareholder returns. Our investment philosophy and processes are focused on creating value over the long term. We believe that incorporating financially material sustainability criteria, when relevant to our clients, can create value and drive positive change.

Job Description

We’re recruiting for a Key Account Manager to build and develop relationships with L&G Asset Management’s key wholesale firms, ensuring a long term strategic relationship is maintained through proactive business planning, including negotiating the appropriate commercial terms whilst coordinating the internal support resource and its deployment. This is a regional role covering clients across Scotland and the North of England.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Driving sales performance by meeting and exceeding revenue targets through compliant product distribution, identifying cross-selling opportunities, leading commercial negotiations, and owning fee arrangements approved by the Fee Committee.
  • Building long-term client partnerships by monitoring agreed terms and implementing corrective actions where required to deliver mutually successful outcomes.
  • Managing a portfolio of advisory and discretionary firms, developing influential relationships with key decision-makers, and gaining a deep understanding of client objectives.
  • Creating joint business plans that encompass contact strategies, distribution and marketing models, commercial opportunities, and tailored solutions that drive growth for both clients and L&G.
  • Maintaining a high level of expertise across L&G Asset Management's Unit Trust, SICAV, ICAV, ETF, and Model Portfolio Service ranges, alongside a strong understanding of our investment philosophy.
  • Supporting clients in achieving their investment objectives, contributing to the RFP process, and collaborating closely with investment teams to deliver best-in-class outcomes.
  • Leading and influencing regional sales and sales support teams to identify and develop new wholesale relationships.
  • Conducting regular performance and development reviews, acting as a role model within the Wholesale Sales Team, and inspiring colleagues through collaboration, professionalism, and the demonstration of Legal & General's values and behaviours.
  • Monitoring competitor activity and market developments to identify emerging opportunities and trends.
  • Shaping future business growth by incorporating market insights into business plans and partnering with proposition teams to enhance offerings and maintain Legal & General's position as a market leader.
  • Creating and delivering a proactive rolling three-month engagement plan for L&G's fund management professionals, maximising client interaction opportunities, measuring impact, and driving successful event participation and engagement.
  • Representing L&G as a trusted market and investment expert at industry events, client presentations, and conferences.
  • Supporting strategic account development through valuable market feedback, while presenting, hosting, and contributing to high-profile client events that strengthen relationships and elevate the L&G brand.
  • Championing the principles of Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) by ensuring all activity aligns with Group policies, regulatory obligations, and Legal & General's commitment to delivering outstanding customer experiences.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Commercial Acumen – Bringing strong commercial awareness and the ability to confidently negotiate agreed fee structures, identifying opportunities that create value for both clients and L&G.
  • Client & Business Relationship Management – Demonstrating a proven ability to build strategic client partnerships, develop impactful business plans, and drive sustainable growth across a portfolio of key relationships in the target markets.
  • Market & Industry Insight – Bringing a deep understanding of the intermediary and wealth management landscape, alongside awareness of competitor activity, market trends, and the factors influencing client decision-making.
  • Investment & Product Expertise – Possessing a strong understanding of investment markets and the ability to articulate the benefits of L&G's broad range of investment solutions to a diverse client base.
  • Investment Process Knowledge – Applying a solid understanding of investment philosophies, portfolio construction, and investment management processes to support informed client conversations and business development opportunities.
  • Influencing & Negotiation Skills – Building trust with stakeholders, constructively challenging thinking, and delivering commercially successful outcomes.

Whatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Here are some of the benefits we offer:

  • The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance-related bonus plan and valuable share schemes.
  • Generous pension contribution.
  • Life assurance.
  • Healthcare Plan (permanent employees only).
  • At least 25 days holiday, plus public holidays, 26 days after 2 years’ service. There’s also the option to buy and sell holiday.
  • Competitive family leave.
  • Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand-new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice (permanent employees only).
  • There are many discounts we offer – both for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online.
  • We’re creating net-zero carbon workplaces by 2030 by investing in our sustainable, modern offices across the UK, all designed to bring people together and elevate the in-person experience.
