As Public Affairs and Policy Manager, you'll help shape our engagement with government, parliamentarians and policymakers - particularly in the asset management space. This is a strategic and externally-facing role, ideal for someone with strong political insight and a passion for influencing policy in a meaningful way.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Shaping policy positions: Proactively supporting the development of Legal General's policy agenda, aligned with our corporate strategy. This includes building a strong understanding of the business and cultivating effective relationships within asset management and across the Group.
  • Supporting the leadership team: Providing timely political analysis and briefings on relevant developments to support the Group CEO, Group Management Committee, and other senior leaders in making informed decisions and communicating our policy positions externally.
  • Horizon scanning: Monitoring the political and public policy landscape to identify emerging trends, risks, and opportunities—particularly in relation to asset management. Evaluating their strategic relevance and communicating insights effectively to internal stakeholders.
  • Contributing to the delivery of a robust public policy management framework.
  • Group-wide processes: Supporting the delivery of efficient internal processes and timely information sharing across divisions. Work closely with the Head of Public Affairs and Policy and the wider team to ensure strong cross-organisational collaboration and forward planning.
  • Advocating the L G position: Representing Legal General externally with key stakeholders, including politicians, advisers, civil servants, and trade bodies. Drafting consultation responses, participating in events, and contributing to the company's external policy engagement.
  • Thought leadership: Assisting the Director of Public Affairs and Policy in developing and delivering a research and engagement strategy that supports business priorities and enables the rollout of impactful, group-wide campaigns.
  • Consumer Duty: Ensuring the Public Affairs team responds effectively to public body requests and correspondence, maintaining high standards of accountability and alignment with Consumer Duty obligations.

Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of the UK political landscape, with an established and active network across government, parliament, and policy circles.
  • Strong knowledge of the asset management sector, including its regulatory and policy challenges, with some understanding of international policy developments that may impact the industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex policy issues clearly and persuasively to a range of audiences.
  • Proven experience working in a complex, issue-rich environment—ideally within or alongside financial services or similarly regulated sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a varied workload, operate independently, and deliver high-quality outputs under pressure.
  • A track record of engaging effectively with government officials, parliamentarians, trade associations, and think tanks.
  • Experience in identifying and managing public policy risks and opportunities, and in advising senior internal stakeholders on political and regulatory developments.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Confident and effective influencer, capable of representing the organisation's interests with authority and professionalism.
