Legal & General (L&G) is a leading UK financial services group and major global investor. We’ve been safeguarding people’s financial futures since 1836, and strive to build a better society, while improving the lives of our customers and creating value for shareholders. We are one of the world’s largest asset managers and provide powerful asset origination capabilities. Together, these underpin our retirement and protection solutions: we are an international player in pension risk transfer, in UK and US life insurance, and in UK workplace pensions and retirement income. Our global asset management business provides our clients and partners with complex, responsible investment solutions, working internationally across public and private markets.
Joining us means helping to improve the lives of our customers and contributing to the success of the business every day. Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn? The L&G Responsible Investing internship is an 8-week programme, running from June to August. During this time, you’ll have the chance to develop your skills, gain valuable insights, and get hands-on work experience. Responsible investing and active ownership are core to our approach: our very purpose in Asset Management is to create a better future through responsible investing.
Dedicated teams work together and across the organisation to integrate environmental, social and governance factors into our investment and stewardship activities, across the asset classes and the varied spectrum of our clients’ objectives. These include active ownership and stewardship activities (including actioning voting rights of the shares we hold); company, market and thematic research; investment processes and solutions, across all asset classes and investment styles. Our teams develop the policies, frameworks and strategies that drive our engagement with companies and governments, how we assess sustainability within our investment portfolios, and the products we offer to meet our clients’ sustainability objectives.
What you might work on:
- Kick off with an induction to introduce you to L&G and prepare for an exciting internship
- Engage with different teams and gain insights from various departments
- Learn from senior speakers
- Network with fellow interns and build lasting connections
You will be assigned to one of our Responsible Investment teams for your 8-week placement. Some of the day-to-day activities you may experience might include:
- Conducting research and due diligence to support decision‑making with thorough insights
- Gathering data for reporting and information collation
- Liaising with stakeholders
- Improving team processes with fresh perspectives
- Developing skills to learn new capabilities and understand how our business operates
Please note we only accept one application per recruitment cycle for our internship roles so please consider all placement positions before applying, as your first application will be considered your only application. You will also need to have your own valid right to work in the UK.
We’re seeking penultimate-year undergraduates with an inquisitive mind and a desire to learn. No prior industry experience is required, but we’ll want to see that you have the tools to develop quickly. These include:
- On track for a 2.1 Degree with a preferable focus on environmental and/or social related topics
- In your penultimate of university (i.e. graduating in 2027)
- Strong quantitative skills and analytical mind-set
- Curious, motivated and have a desire to learn more about a career in Investment Management!
- Flexible and a team-player
- High levels of energy, dynamism and commitment
- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise effectively
Whatever your role, we reward ability, performance and attitude with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Your hard work will be rewarded when you join us. At L&G, we believe it's possible to generate positive returns today while helping to build a better future for all. If you join us, you’ll be part of a welcoming, inclusive culture, with opportunities to collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds, views, and experiences. Guided by leaders with integrity who care about your future and wellbeing. Empowered through initiatives which support people to develop their careers and excel. We care passionately about outcomes rather than attendance and are therefore open to discussing all kinds of flexible working options including part-time, term-time and job shares. Although some roles have limited flexibility due to customer demand, we accommodate requests when we can. It doesn’t matter if you don’t meet every single criterion in this advert. Instead, think about what you excel at and what else you can bring in terms of strengths, potential and connection to our purpose.
