On behalf of our client, we are looking for a Paralegal to join their Litigation & Employment team based in Exeter (hybrid working available) this is a permanent, full-time position. The team acts for a broad range of clients, including individuals, businesses, charities and housing associations, and represents clients in all Courts across England and Wales. Due to continued expansion, the team is looking to appoint a Paralegal with experience in, or a strong interest in, contentious probate work, including Inheritance Act claims, Court of Protection matters, and disputed wills and trusts. The team acts for both claimants and defendants and is led by a Head of Department who is a member of the Association of Contentious Trusts and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS). The role also offers exposure to commercial litigation and general civil disputes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handling initial client enquiries and onboarding new clients
  • Managing telephone and email correspondence with clients
  • Taking proofs of evidence
  • Preparing documents and court bundles
  • Assisting with general case management
  • Undertaking legal research tasks
  • Supporting the creation of marketing materials, including legal insights
  • Providing day-to-day support to the team’s lawyers

The role involves working closely with the Head of Department and offers the opportunity to attend client meetings, court hearings and to be involved in cases from instruction through to conclusion.

Working Arrangements

The team works on a hybrid basis, combining home and office working, and meets regularly for training and team collaboration. Flexible working arrangements can be discussed. Initially, the successful candidate will be office-based in Exeter to support onboarding, training and familiarisation with the team and its processes.

Candidate Profile

Applications are welcomed from candidates of all backgrounds. While prior experience in a similar role is beneficial, the key requirement is a genuine interest in contentious legal work. The successful candidate will be confident in communicating with clients and, under the supervision of the team’s lawyers, will be able to ensure clients receive appropriate information when lawyers are unavailable.
