Our client, a leading Southwest law firm is seeking a Legal Cashier to join its Exeter office. The firm is flexible regarding the level of appointment and will consider both experienced candidates and junior applicants looking to build a long-term career in legal finance.
The Role: This is a key position within the firm, supporting solicitors and ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately and in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will be organised, numerate, and have a genuine interest in accounting and finance.
The firm is happy to consider either:
- An experienced Legal Cashier, or
- A junior candidate who is keen to learn and develop within legal finance.
Key Responsibilities: Depending on experience, duties may include (but will not be limited to):
- Processing client and office account transactions in line with the Solicitors Accounts Rules
- Posting and allocating receipts and payments
- Completing bank reconciliations
- Handling electronic payments
- Supporting fee earners with finance-related queries
- Maintaining accurate financial records and ledgers
Full training will be provided, and responsibilities will develop over time as confidence and experience grow.
The Candidate: The ideal candidate will be reliable, detail-focused, and demonstrate a positive and proactive approach to work.
For Junior / Entry Level applicants, essential requirements include:
- GCSE Maths (or equivalent)
- A strong interest in accounting or finance
- Excellent attention to detail and a willingness to learn
For Experienced applicants:
- Previous experience as a Legal Cashier or within a legal finance team is desirable
For all applicants:
- Basic computer literacy and confidence using financial systems
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload
- A professional and approachable manner
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
