Key responsibilities

  • As a member of the Senior Leadership Group, contribute to the overall leadership and culture of the organisation.
  • Lead the LSB’s policy work as set out in our three-year strategy and annual business plans and account to the Board for progress.
  • In collaboration with the front-line regulators oversee the design, and implementation of legal services regulation policy, ensuring it is firmly focused on where the LSB can specifically add value, and prioritises the needs of consumers, and market innovation.
  • Develop and evolve a collaborative approach to legal service policy development, actively using our convening role to shape public debate and develop solutions in the best interests of consumers.
  • Oversee the LSB’s delivery function, ensuring effective and efficient programme management governance and processes are in place to ensure the LSB delivers its objectives and outcomes.
  • Line manages approximately 4 policy professionals and the Programme Manager.
  • Work closely with the Strategy, Policy and Engagement Directorate Senior Management Team (SMT) ensuring effective leadership of the Directorate.
  • Attend LSB Board meetings and represent the LSB with a wide range of external stakeholders.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Senior level experience of delivering high quality policy interventions, preferably in a regulatory environment and/or with a consumer focus, underpinned by a deep understanding of the end-to-end policy making process.
  • Experience of developing and delivering policy collaboratively and across organisational boundaries, with a wide range of stakeholders in pursuit of shared outcomes.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills – including building and developing individuals and teams and establishing an inclusive working culture where colleagues from a range of backgrounds can thrive.
  • Experience of developing consumer and/or competition policy solutions to make markets work more effectively for consumers.
  • Significant experience of managing and influencing key stakeholders, including senior decision makers internally and externally.
  • A demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion as a colleague and a regulator.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

Desirable experience:

  • An understanding of the key issues facing consumers of legal services would be an advantage.
  • An understanding of AI’s potential to reshape markets to deliver better outcomes for consumers would be useful.

Further information

Reports to: Reporting to the Director, Strategy, Policy & Engagement, this role is part of the LSB’s Senior Leadership Group.

Salary: £79,000 - £85,000 per annum depending on experience (salary band includes a 10% flexible benefits allowance).

Job type: The LSB prides itself on its flexible working policies and we welcome applicants who would like to work full-time (35 hours per week) or on a flexible basis.

Benefits: We offer a competitive salary, a defined contribution pension scheme with an employer’s contribution of 12% of salary and an annual leave entitlement of 25 days in addition to statutory bank holidays and three days’ closure over Christmas.

Location: The LSB has a strong and established culture of flexible working where colleagues can work from home, in the office or a hybrid of both. Our office is based in Stratford.
