We are working with a nationally recognised law firm to recruit experienced Civil Liberties Fee Earners to join its growing and specialist Civil Liberties team. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile, complex civil claims, including matters arising from systemic failures and actions against public bodies. Candidates will act as hands-on fee earners, managing their own caseloads and contributing directly to the firm's continued success in sensitive and impactful litigation. The position offers hybrid working, professional development opportunities, and the chance to work within a supportive, expert team.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a fee earner managing a caseload of civil liberties and related civil claims from inception to conclusion.
- Liaise with clients, counsel, defendants, experts and other third parties.
- Collate, analyse and review complex documentary and evidential material.
- Undertake forensic loss analysis and prepare detailed and complex schedules of loss.
- Obtain, interpret and advise on medical, financial and expert evidence where required.
- Draft pleadings, witness statements, applications, and other key litigation documents.
- Ensure cases are progressed efficiently in line with procedural rules, court directions, and internal protocols.
- Handle matters involving vulnerable clients with sensitivity and professionalism.
- Contribute to business development initiatives and promote the profile of the Civil Liberties team.
- Mentor and assist junior fee earners where appropriate.
- Maintain high standards of compliance, file management, and internal reporting.
Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales), Chartered Legal Executive, or experienced Litigation Executive (Grade A or B fee earner).
- Proven experience as a fee earner in claimant litigation or complex civil claims.
- Strong experience in quantification of loss, forensic loss analysis, and drafting schedules of loss.
- Ability to draft letters of claim, pleadings, witness statements, and other complex litigation documentation.
- Experience in civil liberties, serious injury, clinical negligence, industrial disease, or similar claimant work is desirable but not essential.
- Litigation experience advantageous, but strong pre-litigation fee earners will also be considered.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and a client-focused, empathetic approach.
- Proactive, motivated, and keen to develop within a specialist litigation team.
