We are seeking a talented Senior Engineer to join our dynamic and expanding engineering team. In this role, you will leverage your software engineering expertise to develop innovative features, resolve complex bugs, and manage technical debt. Additionally, you will apply a strategic perspective to enhance our team’s processes and tools, ultimately driving the delivery of high-quality, valuable software to our customers.

What you'll be doing:

  • Developing and maintaining robust features and resolving end-to-end issues with a keen understanding of various approaches, ensuring we deliver exceptional outcomes to our customers.
  • Contributing to the strategic management of technical debt within the team, ensuring Legal & General’s systems remain secure, resilient, and reliable.
  • Analyzing and defining test approaches within your team to guarantee the highest quality customer experience, with a strong emphasis on security, usability, and accessibility.
  • Participating in code reviews with a focus on both functional and non-functional requirements, considering performance, resiliency, maintainability, and security to consistently build high-quality software for our customers.
  • Enthusiastically advocating for inspection and adaptation to enhance team effectiveness and happiness, supporting changes that improve processes and culture.
  • Building a culture of mutual respect, collaboration, and engagement within the team.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and supporting less experienced engineers to help them develop and grow their skills.
  • Conducting ongoing research on relevant application technologies and identifying opportunities to incorporate them into our applications.
  • Sharing your findings and insights in developer forums to foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation.

Qualifications: Who we're looking for:

  • Extensive knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript, NodeJS, AWS SDK & CDK, Python, React, HTML and CSS, Java, Spring, Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Hands-on experience building serverless applications in AWS.
  • Hands-on experience building microservices in Java using Spring Boot.
  • Excellent understanding of best practices in the pragmatic application of clean code and clean architecture principles & design patterns.
  • A proficient understanding of distributed systems.
  • A proficient understanding of software testing.
  • Competency in CI/CD and associated release strategies.
  • Competency in Agile software development methodologies, such as Scrum and Kanban.
