The role involves diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues, addressing technical debt, driving continuous improvement, and enhancing ways of working to deliver high-quality, reliable software solutions that create meaningful value for our customers.

What you'll be doing

  • Design and deliver scalable, well‑architected, maintainable solutions, proactively resolve complex end‑to‑end issues and introduce innovative approaches to maximise customer value.
  • Define and implement robust automated testing strategies, covering functional and non‑functional requirements to ensure consistently high‑quality outcomes.
  • Lead and contribute to code reviews, ensuring adherence to architectural standards, best practices, and functional and non‑functional requirements.
  • Own and drive security assurance across team deliverables, embedding best practices to safeguard company and customer data.
  • Leverage performance metrics and insights to drive continuous improvement in deployment, monitoring and operational processes, ensuring resilient and high‑performing systems.
  • Champion continuous improvement by enhancing team processes, rituals and culture to maintain productivity, collaboration and effectiveness.
  • Manage, motivate and develop team members through coaching and mentorship, supporting professional growth, removing blockers, and strengthening team capability.
  • Promote and ensure a customer‑centric approach, aligning all solutions and interactions with Legal & General’s principles of delivering excellent and fair customer outcomes.

Who we're looking for

  • Degree‑level qualification in a technology‑related discipline is preferred; however, equivalent practical experience will be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure, including cloud infrastructure, core services, networking, identity management (Azure AD, RBAC), and security tools such as Azure Security Centre and Monitor.
  • Proven experience with infrastructure automation and provisioning tools, particularly Terraform, alongside familiarity with alternatives such as ARM, CloudFormation or Pulumi.
  • Hands‑on experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes (AKS preferred), as well as associated tooling such as Helm or Kustomize.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g. Bash, Python, Ansible), with a focus on improving efficiency and managing repetitive tasks.
  • Solid understanding of cloud security, vulnerability scanning, testing tools for infrastructure‑as‑code, and best practices in secure configuration and capacity planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop and maintain high‑quality, optimised solutions, with strong problem‑solving and debugging skills in complex environments.
  • Experience working in Agile environments, with the ability to collaborate effectively within teams, demonstrate technical leadership or mentoring, and maintain clear documentation and governance standards.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to participate in our annual, performance‑related bonus plan and share schemes.
  • Generous pension contribution.
  • Life assurance.
  • Healthcare plan (permanent employees only).
  • At least 25 days holiday, plus public holidays; 26 days after 2 years’ service, with the option to buy and sell holiday.
  • Competitive family leave.
  • Electric car scheme for permanent employees through salary sacrifice.
  • Various discounts on our own products and partner retail stores and online platforms.
  • Commitment to net‑zero carbon workplaces by 2030, investing in sustainable offices across the UK to enhance the in‑person experience.
