As a global investor, we are present where our clients most need us – from Hong Kong and Singapore, to Chicago and major European financial hubs. Created by combining our investment management (LGIM) and asset origination (LGC) capabilities, our Asset Management division works with our Institutional Retirement and Retail divisions to benefit our clients and customers – which include individual savers, pension scheme members and global institutions – and deliver enhanced shareholder returns. Joining us means becoming part of a market-leading team, with capabilities across the full spectrum of asset classes, with an enduring commitment to responsible investment and creating long-term, sustainable value for our clients and partners.
We’re currently looking to hire a Junior Trader to join L&G Asset Management and the London-based Equity & FX trading team, which sits within the Global Trading & Liquidity Management Team. Initially, you will specialise in the execution of foreign exchange (FX) trades, including associated over the counter and exchange traded derivatives. Over time, you will be expected to expand your expertise to the trading of the additional asset classes covered by the Equity & FX trading team; this will include cash equities, ETFs, listed and over the counter derivatives (covering equities and commodities). This is an execution role with a high degree of interaction with portfolio managers and counterparties, so excellent stakeholder management skills are needed. Ideally you’ll have some experience of working on a trading desk at a buy-side or sell-side institution. You’ll be enthusiastic, highly motivated and a proven self-starter with strong willingness to develop trading skills and knowledge across asset classes. This is a great opportunity to build your career within trading. This is a full-time office-based role which will require a flexible-working pattern as dictated by business volumes.
What you'll be doing:
- Managing and monitoring the execution of a range of Equity, FX, listed and OTC derivatives in compliance with client, legal, regulatory requirements, and risk management practices at all times.
- Analysing market data to develop trading strategies and optimise counterparty selection.
- Incorporate data into decision-making processes, using transaction cost analysis to improve trading outcomes.
- Providing investment teams with up-to-date market commentary, daily feedback where necessary and advice on traded/open positions.
- Establishing and developing strong relationships with internal stakeholders and counterparties.
- Assisting and working effectively with other members of the Global Trading & Liquidity Management team, specifically the Equity & FX trading teams in Hong Kong and Chicago.
- Partnering and working with our Trading Research team to analyse, process and interpret large trading data sets to improve execution tools and client outcomes.
- Input towards process changes and joint ventures with stakeholders to refine efficiency, automate and add value to processes.
- Assisting with general and specific technology initiatives, including system upgrades.
- Cross train to achieve competency in all asset classes traded by the Equity & FX trading team.
- Practice L&G cultural values and behaviours.
Who we're looking for:
- Strong academic background; qualifications, or progress towards professional certifications such as CFA/IMC are desirable, but not required.
- Demonstrate a strong academic performance in quantitative subjects.
- You’ll have previous trading related experience, or experience within a relevant role.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with a keen interest in financial markets.
- Basic understanding of financial instruments and financial markets that also includes knowledge of market structure and the mechanics of the trading process through to settlement.
- Demonstrate robust problem-solving skills and ability to make data driven decisions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in a collaborative team-based environment.
- Highly motivated, enthusiastic, eager to learn, and adaptable individual.
- Proficiency in Python, or other programming languages are desirable, but not required.
Whatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Here are some of the benefits we offer:
- The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance-related bonus plan and valuable share schemes.
- Life assurance.
- Private medical insurance (permanent employees only).
- At least 25 days holiday, plus public holidays, 26 days after 2 years’ service. There’s also the option to buy and sell holiday.
- Competitive family leave.
- Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand-new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice (permanent employees only).
- There are many discounts we offer – both for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online.
