Legal & General (L&G) is a leading UK financial services group and major global investor. We’ve been safeguarding people’s financial futures since 1836, and strive to build a better society, while improving the lives of our customers and creating value for shareholders. We are one of the world’s largest asset managers and provide powerful asset origination capabilities. Together, these underpin our retirement and protection solutions: we are an international player in pension risk transfer, in UK and US life insurance, and in UK workplace pensions and retirement income.

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn? Actuarial work plays a vital role in running a profitable and well-managed insurance business, and your contribution will support the success of a FTSE 100 company committed to inclusive capitalism and building a better society. Our actuaries work across the organisation, measuring, predicting and managing key areas to deliver value for customers. This 13-month placement is a great opportunity for someone looking for an insight into the role of an actuary; you don’t need to be studying Actuarial Science, although this would be advantageous. With continuous support and core skills training, you’ll contribute to team success and be guided by a dedicated line manager. You’ll gain hands-on experience, develop technical and commercial skills, and connect with peers and colleagues through networking and social events.

What you might work on:

  • Performing actuarial investigations and calculations to support pricing decisions and create bespoke quotations for large schemes
  • Managing experience analysis to understand the impact of changes in mortality, morbidity, expenses and persistency
  • Delivering financial reporting results to tight deadlines and providing supporting commentary
  • Developing and maintaining actuarial models, code and software to support robust decision making
  • Summarising the performance of insurance products or investigation results for senior stakeholders
  • Collecting and analysing market data to provide insight and support pricing decisions
  • Collaborating with colleagues across teams to share insights and improve processes
  • Contributing to projects that enhance risk analysis, pricing strategies and product development

After completing the internship, there’s a chance you could be offered a graduate role (upon completion of your degree). Any offer will depend on how you perform during your placement and the graduate roles available at the time. If you do receive an offer, it will be for the same business area where you did your placement. Please note, we can only accept one application per person across all of our intern roles. Therefore, please think carefully about the programme you intend to apply for, because your first application will be considered as your only application. We recruit on a rolling basis, and this role is likely to fill quickly. To give yourself the best chance, we recommend applying as soon as possible.

Qualifications:

  • 2.1 degree in a numerate subject (ideally Maths or a STEM subject)
  • Penultimate year student studying in a four-year course (graduating in 2028)
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Strong analytical skills and great communication skills
  • Someone flexible who is also a team-player
  • A highly organised individual, who has the ability to prioritise effectively

Additional Information:

Whatever your role, we reward ability, performance and attitude with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Your hard work will be rewarded when you join us. At L&G, we believe it's possible to generate positive returns today while helping to build a better future for all. If you join us, you’ll be part of a welcoming, inclusive culture, with opportunities to collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds, views, and experiences. Guided by leaders with integrity who care about your future and wellbeing. Empowered through initiatives which support people to develop their careers and excel. We care passionately about outcomes rather than attendance and are therefore open to discussing all kinds of flexible working options including part-time, term-time and job shares. Although some roles have limited flexibility due to customer demand, we accommodate requests when we can. It doesn’t matter if you don’t meet every single criterion in this advert. Instead, think about what you excel at and what else you can bring in terms of strengths, potential and connection to our purpose.
