We are seeking an experienced AWS Solutions Architect to join our Cloud Data Engineering Architecture team. In this critical role, you will apply your deep expertise in AWS cloud services to design innovative, scalable solutions and uphold architectural governance for advanced, cloud-hosted data platforms. Your contributions will play a key role in shaping the future of our data ecosystem driving security, performance, and efficiency across the organisation. What you’ll be doing:
- Ensuring solutions are fit for purpose, meet business requirements, adhere to quality standards, and deliver value within cost constraints
- Providing input into project and resource plans, supporting business case development, and identifying issues and risks while leading their resolution
- Communicating solution designs, key decisions, and approaches clearly to stakeholders, governance forums, and project bodies, including the Technical Design Authority (TDA)
- Overseeing solution development and engaging in implementation activities as required, while applying knowledge of technology options and surveying the external market for insights and vendor solutions
- Conducting analysis of technology alternatives, including benefits, costs, and risks; performing gap analyses and developing proof‑of‑concepts for new solutions
- Retaining accountability for architecture and design throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with the original design, and managing the production of Key Decision Documents with appropriate governance processes
- Assessing and selecting packaged solutions in collaboration with business teams, IT procurement, and Managed Service Providers, and producing IT review documents to ensure due diligence
- Identifying and implementing opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in the strategic application of technology
Qualifications:
- Relevant degree or equivalent professional experience; AWS certification is desirable
- Proven ability to design and build complex, cloud‑hosted data platforms on AWS
- Strong knowledge of DevOps and DevSecOps best practices, including Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD
- Experience integrating cloud systems and third‑party services (IaaS, SaaS/DBaaS such as Snowflake, MongoDB Atlas)
- Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals (networking, OS concepts, security protocols) and secure system design
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C++) and modern development methodologies (TDD, Agile)
- Hands‑on experience with data engineering: ETL/ELT pipelines, data formats (JSON, Avro), and high‑volume analytics systems
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate business requirements, document solution designs, and articulate technical decisions clearly
