Helping over ten million people around the world manage their savings, retirement plans and life insurance requires a lot of people behind-the-scenes. It’s up to us in L&G Group functions - which includes our tech and digital teams, Group Finance, HR, Risk and Corporate Comms to provide the essential support services that all areas of the business need, here in the UK and overseas. Simply put, we enable everyone at Legal & General to do what they do best. That means we’re helping to improve our customers’ lives, and contributing to the success of the business every day.

Would you like the opportunity to design and deliver Legal and General’s first behavioural assessment function? If you are an occupational psychologist with an in-depth knowledge of psychometric assessments, then this is a rare opportunity to join our HR team as the Head of Assessment. In this brand-new position, you will design and implement our assessment strategy & approach to ensure that consistent, objective, and reliable data sits at the heart of our people decisions. You’ll partner with the business and HR stakeholders to ensure behavioural assessment needs are met in support of selection, development, and talent identification. You’ll be tasked to drive the onboarding and embedding of a new psychometric tool, ensuring it is scalable, impactful, and mapped to our behavioural framework with an excellent, and meaningful, user experience. Whilst also ensuring that our assessment approach is aligned to business and HR strategies and models and supports a consistent employee experience.

This is a fantastic opportunity where you’ll have a direct impact on how we develop our leaders, as well as creating a function that will become integral part of our Talent and success pipelining agenda. Whilst your initial goal will be to design the function, and then deliver it across the business, there will be lots of opportunity for this role to develop into a broader and more strategic position. We’re proud of the culture that we have here at L&G, so you expect to be joining a collaborative, straight forward, purposeful, diverse, and inclusive culture, full of talented people that are all passionate about what we do.

To be successful in this role you’ll need to be a strong communicator, with the ability to coach, facilitate, and present to a variety of senior stakeholders across the business. You’ll also be comfortable and experienced with influencing Senior leaders to think differently about assessment interventions. This is brand new role, so you’ll need to enjoy working autonomously, whilst fully utilising your problem-solving skills.

Here’s some of the key experience and skills that we’d love to see:

  • Previous experience of running an occupational psychology function, with specific experience in driving assessment interventions
  • A post-graduate qualification or corresponding experience with relevant professional qualifications such as a postgrad degree in Occupational Psychology
  • Relevant qualification in applying psychometric assessment tools such as BPS Level A & P or equivalent
  • Knowledge of how psychological practices can be applied to optimise business performance and employee experience
  • In depth knowledge of psychometric assessment tools, methodologies, application, and best practice gained from experience in house or in consultancy
  • Awareness of best practice approaches within occupational psychology and a desire to explore these in support of optimising selection, development, and talent identification

Responsibilities:

  • Lead on the design & implementation of the Group’s assessment strategy & approach to ensure consistent, objective, and reliable data sits at the heart of our people decisions.
  • Partner with the business and HR to fully understand the various assessment needs and provide expert advice on the optimal methodologies and tools.
  • Deliver an end-to-end in-house Executive Assessment service for hiring development or talent needs, including conducting leadership assessments, bespoke report writing and providing expert guidance and advice to individuals and managers.
  • Manage our third-party psychometric providers. Ensure their tools are brought to life through our L&G behaviours, talent model and leadership principles so they make sense to the business and the individual.
  • Stay up to date on the latest industry knowledge and practices to ensure we merge best practice with business needs to find the best fit in our assessment solutions.
  • Conduct internal research, bringing our assessment data to life to tell powerful people-stories and demonstrate the business impact of assessments.
  • Partner closely with the heads of Talent, Leadership Development and Executive Hiring to ensure strategic alignment and efficient delivery across the Grow function.
